You have to read the thread about the Pope having flu to understand the reference!

indeed. Mind you with this being Jackson with one sneeze the face could fall off so for him it is major.

News 24 are showing live pictures of an ice rink with a woman falling over repeatedly, rather than focussing on the Jacko situation.

Well, they did want to be distinctive.

Oh my lord. He has the flu.

Jesus.

What's your problem? Jackson goes to hospital. Trial delayed. They flashed it, spoke about it for a bit, and have moved on. There's not much else to say at the moment.

I'd rather have some news, rather than continous speculation ala Sky etc.

I always thought Jacko was very very ill anyway - oh no sorry, he's sick not ill!

On a pres front, I still think that News 24 has in its possession a tool which would be so effective in instances like like the Jacko flu incident, but they never use it. The ticker.

To me everytime they flash a bit of Breaking News up, as soon as the BN red banner leaves the screen, it should be replaced by a red ticker with 'JUST IN' under the tower and the main points of the Breaking News story. This ticker should stay on the screen for 5 minutes and then disappear (not sure whether this could be done automatically?).

This would make sure that anyone who's popped to the bog or answered the phone or whatever would be less likely to have missed that a story has broken within the last 5 minutes.

Couldn't agree more- it's so obvious I just don't understand why it hasn't happened. Personally I'd like to see this:

- Breaking news comes in and the ticker rolls saying just
BREAKING NEWS BREAKING NEWS BREAKING NEWS BREAKING NEWS
in black text on a yellow background (i.e. stands out).
Then the main aston comes up with the information, doing away with the alternating "Breaking News / Story" wipes (the yellow ticker tells you it's breaking news)

- Then as you say Moz, after the aston is taken down, the yellow breaking news ticker is replaced by the current format ticker, using "JUST IN" in a red box below the tower and scrolling information.

- If another breaking news story comes in whilst the ticker is in use, the current "Breaking News / Story" wipe aston would be used.

It's just so obvious and so disappointing not to see it happen. It is the main reason why N24's "when needed" ticker is so much better than the "always on" versions on other channels....so much more flexible.

I wouldn't use use yellow as it doesn't really fit in, and seems a little ITNish, though I'd consider making the banner red on white to attract more attention.

I also don't like your idea of getting rid of the Breaking News/Story wipe - I think this is effective, and your idea of using one method for one story and then going back to the old method if another story comes in.

No, leave as it is but just run the ticker for 5 minutes after. If another breaking news story comes in less than 5 minutes after the last one, they could just use the banner again and alternate the two stories on the ticker.

It just seems silly to me that if you turn away from the screen for a bit you miss something which was deemed important enough to use the sting for. Sometimes they can give as little as 15-20 seconds to a breaking story!

Tonight at 7.30pm and Sunday at 2.30am and 8.30pm and Monday at 4.30am Sky News is showing a programme which gives some background on the reconstructions, and includes interviews with the cast, set designer and producers etc.

I've seen a trailer tonight on Sky One saying special programmes start tomorrow on Sky News (9.30am), Sky One (1.30pm) and Sky Mix (5pm), but they don't seem to tie in with the existing schedule and if these are to be regular times each day, there's a lot of rescheduling to be done.

Well, I was quite impressed with the first reconstruction programme on Sky News this morning. I presume the programme on Sky One and Sky Mix is a repeat of that?

Sky also have a snazzy VR thing, with walking-talking-virtual-people.

Not seen the reconstructions yet, but hopefully they'll have made more effort with it than the Hutton ones.

Anyone know if Jackson reconstructions are available online?
