Indications tonight that the funeral won't be as big as previously hinted at and the public viewing (lying in state thingy) has been rightly, in my view, cancelled. So I wonder will Burley be shipped home to cover Murray's Wimbledon final.
On the point before, CNN couldn't stay with the Michael Jackson story as presumably they don't own the channel, just that block of hours. They have to switch off at that precise time as it's not their channel then, just like GMTV can't just hang about and cover something after 9.25am, or UTV can't break into GMTV's programmes for breaking news. Which of course they learned the hard way...
Fair enough though when a regular channel broadcasts a few hours from a news channel, but not so fair when a news channel broadcasts a few hours from a gambling channel - at a time on Freeview where that channel is available anyway.
That kind of isn't the point though - automated or not, when there is a developing story they should have stuck with CNN - on CNN!
But no-one at CNN has any control over it - if indeed there was anyone at CNN in London to make the decision, which of course it wasn't theirs to make!
It's unfortunate for CNN of course, but that's their problem. However, it's not as if it was important life or death information that had to passed on and could only be broadcast by CNN. There's no public service issue
What channels are showing this tribute service on Tuesday. I know Sky News/SkyArts1 and CNN are
I assume it'll be on, or at least featured on, the news channels. None of the 5 main channels are showing it from what I can see. What time is it starting?
