I'm guessing C4 would only usually be showing Come Dine With Me at 8pm anyway.

From a terrestrial perspective, I think ITV provided the best coverage last night. Using a big name presenter and providing well structured updates was well done. I wasn't really impressed with BBC One's attempt, messily opting in and out of the news channel with two relative unknowns, one of which barely spoke during the update meaning it looked weird for BBC1 viewers. Surely the presenter of the Ten O'Clock News or Newsnight could have stuck around and presented a bulletin without disrupting the flow of the news channel.

yeah I agree , as always Alastair is great! Without interupting programmes, itv news told you what you needed to know - rather than reusing the same information again and again.

Sky news seems to still think its breaking news!! - about 15 hours later!!

Quote:
BBC soap EastEnders has filmed a last-minute scene to be edited into tonight's episode referencing Michael Jackson's death, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.

A scene towards the beginning of the episode will see Denise Wicks (Diane Parish) wish her surrogate father Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) a happy birthday, before mentioning the sad news of Jackson's passing.

The show will also contain a track from the King Of Pop playing in the background of a scene elsewhere in the episode.

Really, is this necessary ?

No, and the soaps normally have a policy of not mentioning current events for fear of influencing the public: even 'celebrity grieving fests' such as this are normally a no-go area.

Perhaps the BBC are desperate to make themselves appear current and relevent even though most of their licence payers are out in the garden enjoying the nice weather.

Meridian is pathetic- they have the most tenous links of anything that happens somewhere near the region that slightly involves a famous person, of course that 'region' now includes news for Oxford & Swindon due to the restructuring of local news.

The tenuous link here was some woman living in Brighton who went to see Jackson 40 odd years ago & then as mentioned Geller living in Berks.

Even Wimbledon is not safe, Federer was kept on BBC 2 while Sue Barker discussed Jackson with John McEnroe- (who surprise surprise had never met Jackson) for 10-15 minutes, this was because Serena Williams was asked about Jackson rather than her victory by the interviewer.

How is your regional news reacting? (should it really warrant coverage here?)

Meridian News also covered the story this lunchtime with reaction from none other than Berkshire-based Uri Gellar. Rolling Eyes

The BBC's South East Today opting out and concentrating on the Swine Flu outbreak.

Why are Sky STILL reporting this as 'Breaking News'?

I mean, if the autopsy is reportedly going to take 6 to 8 weeks....
