I certainly wouldn't expect such comments or images to be broadcast immediately: either out of respect for the family or those viewers who enjoy over-reacting to such events with public displays of weeping and wailing.

So rather than a balanced report you'd prefer a whitewash then a witchhunt after x amount of hours mourning? Exactly how long should we wait before daring to question the life of the recently departed? twenty four hours perhaps?

I find your view that essentially a decade of the man's life shoud be ignored because it wasn't as good as the first few, especially when the last decade still has him at a reasonable young age.

with the exception of that old fraud Uri Gellar.

"He was my dear friend, my best man at my wedding - we were very close".

"When did you last speak to him Uri"

"Er... I have no comment".

Mmm kay.

Strange fellow that Uri Gellar. And those stories of apparently Uri putting him under hypnosis and getting him to reveal the troubles in his life.

I'm not saying it's not true but when it comes from Uri Gellar's mouth..he goes into full on fairytale mode.

Seriously - what a lot of tosh.

Obituaries are there to reflect the life and times of the subject.

The news isn't given to editing out unpalatable aspects to allow mourners to grieve.

If you actually take the time to read what I posted, I said that I don't think the news channels were necessarily running prepared obituary reports at the time, simply any old library footage they could find and talking over it. If they were trying to reflect the life and times of the subject then it wasn't a very professional way of going about it!

You have obviously been watching far more realistic versions of BBC News & Sky News if you've seen reports which don't take into account the feelings of grieving mourners, whether they are genuine family members or just celebrity coffin-chasers.

I don't recall comments about Diana's bulimia or adultery in the hours immediately after her death, or statements about the Queen Mother's vindictive attitude towards the Duke of Windsor following her death - such things were saved for later and presented in a balanced way.

The reports broadcast this afternoon haven't omitted the negative aspects of Jackson's life, but they are certainly more considered and include a prepared commentary, not simply played to the ad-lib narration of a presenter who was trying to fill a void in the wee small hours.

So rather than a balanced report you'd prefer a whitewash then a witchhunt after x amount of hours mourning? Exactly how long should we wait before daring to question the life of the recently departed? twenty four hours perhaps?

I'm not an international broadcaster, of course, but I'm flattered that you think my comments carry equal weight!

given that you expected the international broadcasters to adhere to your personal standards I thought it was a fair comparison

How is your regional news reacting? (should it really warrant coverage here?)

Meridian News also covered the story this lunchtime with reaction from none other than Berkshire-based Uri Gellar. Rolling Eyes

The BBC's South East Today opting out and concentrating on the Swine Flu outbreak.

In light of this, I see Lara Lewington is now Showbiz correspondent for Sky News? Well she was last night anyway.

(They get about these weather presenters... next we'll be seeing Sian Lloyd as BBC's political commentator.)

BBC North West were just carrying on as normal, with the lead being the Child murder case in Salford, where as ITV Granada gave it a mention asking viewers for their memories of Jackson. I flicked around at lunchtime and it was lead story on London Today.

Schedule change on ITV1 tonight - a repeat of a 2005 Jackson documentary at 9pm. Are any other channels showing specials or anything?
