This is a man who was known as "wacko jacko" by virtually everyone, including his fans. He was an eccentric person, and to ignore that whole part of his life because it's not nice and cuddly is just as wrong as someone making out that he was a kiddy fiddler who happened to get lucky with a couple of songs.

The whole baby dangling incident was a major news story in his life, and everybody at the time was talking about it. If you want to pretend he was some sort of perfect deity and could do no wrong, why not go off to DS and join in with their mourn-fest.

Edit to clarify: I'm not trying to say he wasn't worth nowt, but lets celebrate who he was, eccentricities and all. Who else owns their own theme park?!

I was pointing out the customary practice of praising somone's virtues immediately after their death rather than jumping in with negative comments. The news organisations have followed this practice since Jackson's death was confirmed.

I am no particular fan of Jackson, so I won't be joining any 'mourn-fest' on DS or elsewhere. I joined this thread to comment on the fact that it was a quickly developing news story which caused disruption to TV schedules. Now that's over, I have little interest in the subject.

Hymagumba's original comment was aimed to ridicule the poster rather than make a sensible contribution to the thread. That was obvious, and his later attempt to justify it was equally weak.

The thread is clearly about news coverage of an event, nothing more!

You'd have been mortified at the coverage Myra Hindley received when she past away, talk about speaking ill of the dead. Rolling Eyes

Why are you comparing Jackson to a convicted Serial Killer? I'm not aware of any virtues that the news organisations could speak of regarding Hindley!

It's obviously not a direct comparison, but how can suggest that they ignore the last few years i.e the 'Wacko Jacko' phase in a summing up of his life? That would just be ridiculous.

Why mention it then?

You really are arguing against your own point without me having to say anything!

A quick search on t'internet shows the following rather brief page on Jackson's website.

The singular page has now been updated with comments from music moguls.

Good to see that Fox News' Breaking News graphics are as typically low-key as ever.

That graphic is only used for Geraldo and Greta, all other shows except Fox Report use the standard 'ALERT' strap. (FR uses a yellow breaking news theme)

But yes, it is hideous.

I know it is going to be a big story- but it is for me a bit over the top, I switched off this morning when they started interviewing people who have never even met him- yet talk as if they were childhood friends & the final straw is when they were about to interview some Jacko lookalike & some other random guy on the GMTV sofa.
