Us here in the North of the region had a small package about the 50 years in the South. It covered Southern, TVS and Meridian. I wonder if there'll be anymore this week?

TVS and the opening of Vinters Park ( Wink ) was mentioned tonight on the South East edition and Ron Lobeck (Former Coast to Coast/Meridian Tonight weatherman) joins Phil and Charlotte on the sofa tomorrow.

There doesnt appear to be a South Today thread, so just wanted to know if anybody else watched tonights ST? about Pompeys New Tower
I thought it was a bit better than Meridians effort, all presenters there and good cut shots from Gunwharf looking up into the tower where you can just about see Sally..
BTW why hasnt any pres sites have any recent presentation of ST? I mean they have added bits to the studio, got new titles and just recently new astons, even if they are the old ones re-coloured!

South Today's programme from/about the Spinnaker Tower was better. But Meridian obviously had some serious problems as Fred was meant to be coming live from Tower but instead we got the sports reporter, Paul Belverstone presenting with Debbie in the studio and one of the features being relegated to the late news.

They must have known that they wouldn't be able to do the OB for some time though as they managed to draft Andrew Pate in to act as sports reporter and made next to no mention that Fred was meant to be live from the tower.

Mind you, if you know about the story of the tower, how its five years too late for the Millennium and massivily over-budget, the Meridian effort actually seems to follow the tradition of the whole project Razz

Wouldn't hold your breath just yet, it is only a three month trial.

Meanwhile on Meridian East they had their problems. Helen James fluffed her lines repeatedly and kept trying to read Ian axton's lines.

The link to Sports girl Sarah Saunders failed so they had to do the sports stories themselves.

Why can't we see more of Glen Thomsett on the east edition of Meridian Tonight when the resident anchor Phil Hornby is off. He was a regular before the whole thing moved to its new base, he's local, knows and IS known in the area and comes over as a likeable guy. It now seems to be a complete free-for-all with every Tom Dick and Harry having a go. Basics of telly and radio - keep up the continuity - people DON'T like change - just watch those audience figures take a dive - that is if they haven't already!!!!???

I may be wrong, but I've always been led to believe that news presenters are not allowed to appear in adverts. Perhaps someone decided that No Wet Wonderfoam causes a conflict.
