I was under the impression that there were a lot more people than this, in one way or the other, involved in News even if it just IT related?

There are - but you're not likely to get people to say too much, and its actually a little rude to pry.

Instead of asking, just read the forum regularly and you will begin to work out who is in the industry and who isn't.

EDIT: You beat me by one minute Londoner, but our advice is the same.

I must admit I didn't/don't think it was that rude to ask, its not like I am asking anyone to disclose what their salary is. Its the kind of question I might ask of anyone down the pub so on a board that is devoted to TV News...

Perhaps people don't want to be hassled which is fair enough.

If you had managed to extract information regarding "channels, departments, titles etc", you might well have been able to work out salaries, but that's not really the point.

Some members already get hassled via Private Message because of what they might know (or for 'favours'), so that is part of the reason for privacy.

As has been said, if you stick around long enough and read carefully, you can get a good idea of whos who.

I think you are giving me too much credit here if you were to think I could. I work in banking IT so have no idea of figures in other sectors but I see your point.

.

That seems to be the general consensus and as I said above is fair enough.

I will avoid such further rudeness and will attempt to critercise individual news readers who have no come back Wink

Actually Starspell is about to start and wouldn't want to miss the lovely Nina Hossain.

An amusing phrase, if ever there was one.

A cynic might be tempted to allege that it is an oxymoron.

I wouldn't DREAM of doing so, however.

You should do something about it. Judging from your posts on here, you seem to have really detailed knowledge and a definate interest in the technical operation of television. You certainly seem to have a more detailed knowledge of television operations than some of the people I have met in the industry. What can you lose in trying?

Sounds like you have worked there yourself.

As for the guy that would like to work for the BBC I would say go for it. I used to work for a financial software house and applied for a job in the BBC and was lucky enough to get it. I only applied on the off chance since I thought with my background there would be no chance.
For various reasons I decided not to take it and now work for an investment bank. I have never been so unhappy in a job.

BBC Local Radio only employ people who know how to put on headphones.

More accurately, they should only employ people who remember to tell their guests to put the headphones on!

I take it that means you have to do extremely 'anti-social' hours? Do find that a problem? I was talking to someone who used to do that but she said it was good to get work out of the way and then have the rest of the day .
