Maxine will actually be laughing her head off at all this tosh here on this thread. She is actually one of the most capable and experienced news presenters that the BBC currently has, despite not being a frontline anchor for several years now.

Maxine was one of the main casters on BBC World back in the late nineties and I will bet you all a few £'s (not you Matrix, as I owe you too much already) that the day after her appearance on the Ten, many of you will have changed your tune and will comment on how good her performance actually was.

The BBC management obviously thinks she is as good as Edwards, Hill, Alagiah, Jordon and Murnaghan to be given the chance to anchor the programme.

And, God Almighty - Maxine is a MILLION times better than Fiona Bruce.

They should put Alistair Yates on the Ten personally, he would be right for the programme!

I remember Michael Buerk did the Ten a while back... back for one night only! Since then we've had Peter Sissons on the Ten (marginally better than he is on n24) and George Alagiah, who was the relief on the Ten in the 1999 - 2003 set. IMHO it would be great to see Mike back again.

Even thought his reported views have changed slightly my opinion of him, yoy have to admit he was a cracking presenter.

I'd personally like to see the Ten use more of the experienced members, with some degree of gravitas as opposed to hair gel. I'd love for Big Al to present to a more main stream audience, I think he'd take like a duck to water, or even Geogre, who preforms much better on his own, or even some of them brilliant World presenters tucked away over there.

We live in hope.

Well I wouldn't so so far as to say that she is a million times better than Fiona, I agree with everything else you've said; I hope the RT is correct and that Maxine is on because I think she'll make a great job of it: if she's capeable of anchoring three hours of rolling news. I'm sure she's more than capeable of presenting a half-hour more scripted news (even if it is the flagship programme).

Glad to hear you've not forgotten. I was preparing to send the heavies round...

Seriously though, as you've said, judgement should be reserved until she's actually appeared. Cameras have a funny impact on people...

Well Maxine has just presented the 7.35 bulletin on BBC1 and said that she will be back for the 10 o'clock news later - first one of the week?

Yes, just caught her on my way to the kitchen, Rather suited it well IMO.

More interestingly it's nice to see some of these presenter's who's been on News 24 appearing on the nationals. I certainly think Maxine and a few others, Big Al to mention one would be far more suited to the National bulletins. Wheras, I could think of a few current national presenters I'd happily put on overnights...

Here are some caps of Maxine this evening. It's the first time in fifteen months that she's done the weekend bulletins on BBC ONE.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but surely this is just an attempt to get the News 24 presenters a bit more recognition?

Just a bit of promotional folly, one might argue.

I dont think so - its probably just a case of who is and isnt available at a given point. If the likes of Darren and Fiona are unavailable or have holiday then it makes sense to use other presenters to see how they perform on a national bulletin as opposed to say N24 for any future changes.

BTW I thought Maxine was absoilutely fine on the bulletin - but then anybody is better than Darren 'always on at weekends' Jordon!
