Maxine Mawhinney to present the Ten O'clock News?

First Emily on Newsnight, now according to RT, Maxine is presenting the Ten next Thursday and Friday. Seems a bit of a jump, seeing as she hasn't presented a BBC One bulletin for nearly 2 years and only did sporadic appearances when she did. Shes also doing the weekend bulletins this Sunday so will certainly be interesting.

Both Huw and Fiona must be off all next week as no-one is down in RT to present the bulletin on Monday-Wednesday so who knows who we're get then.

I would have thought they would have put George on the Ten if they were desperate and then Dermot/Bill on the Six with the other on Breakfast...

Hmmmm..... I think I quite like this idea.

Big changes seem to have occured just because Sophie is on baby vaccation.

Breakfast- Bill Turnbull, Sian Williams (Mishal Hussien, David Eades (sp?)
1- Anna Ford (Darran Jordon)
6- Dermot Murnaghan and Natasha Kaplinsky (possibly Fiona in reserve?)
10- Huw Edwards (Maxine Mawhinney)

If these changes are throughout sophie's leave, it could prove to be quite interesting to see the way things go after Anna Ford retires.

Well Huw will be doing some sort of special for Remeberence Sunday, so that makes him unavailable. The weekend news once used Matthew Armroliwala.

Is there any continuity on the BBC's weekend bulletins. One week it's Darran, another it's Peter Sissons, Natasha Kaplinsky and Jane Hill pop in now and again... Who is the main anchor for the weekend? They should appoint somebody as weekend presenter like ITV News appointed Andrea Catherwood (thank heavens she is no longer a weekday presenter).

It should be the second presenter of the One as for the One it should be:
Mon -Thurs - Anna Ford
Fri (and cover) - Darren Jordon

Therefore Darren should be the weekend presenter but if he is covering for Anna then it could be anyone. I personally think though that Fiona Bruce, the second presenter of the Ten should do more as the cover for the weekends.

The main anchors for the weekend are:

Sat - Darren Jordon (Matthew Am. as cover)
Sun - Fiona Bruce (Jane Hill as cover)

Interestingly as well - Fiona Bruce has a radio show.... at 10pm on Friday on R2

I'd prefer to see Jane Hill fill in on the Ten when Fiona Bruce is away. She's much better than Maxine M in my view.

Yes I think Jane Hill would be better for the Ten but I'd miss her over on N24. I'm used to her being the evening anchor. Maxine Mawhinney will certainly be interesting, they should have let Peter Sissons do it - he is ten times better on the national than on N24. He should have never left the Ten.

Whilst Sissons is awful on News 24, he was IMO over-rated on the nationals. He just was never my cuppa - always a bit wooden, and seemed to 'bark' the news at you.

Maxine certainly is an interesting choice for the Ten, especially, as jamej said she hasn't sone the nationals for ages - in fact the last time, was On Breakfast, 'twas Christmas Eve, last year, which was the first time in ages.

We shall see - maybe it's George or Dermot Mon -Weds - whoever is doing the Six that evening.
