It’s been an incredible decade, and I’ve been privileged to spend a lot of it fronting @5_News, witnessing the World change. It’s time to make my own change though, and next week I will present my last 5 News Tonight. New things in the New Year. M
The BBC do seem to need a ever increasing number of presenters to do a ever decreasing number of shifts so its certainly a possibility but I'm surprised that he's been allowed to announce his departure before it happened if he's immediately off the a rival broadcaster.

I realise that many of the presenters are freelance but having a different presenter on almost every day in the month in some slots is hardly a good image to be portraying when they are constantly going on about having no money.
Unless Dani Sinha has left, she'll be back from maternity leave at some point in the new year to replace Matt. I'd expect Katherine to cover in the interim.
Excellent move, although I'll miss playing CL bingo to see which bulletin she'll be presenting as a freelancer.
She seemed to be doing 7 days a week at Sky so could see some interesting presenters there (especially with Isabel Webster off on leave just before Xmas).

There were days she'd be on Sky and BBC London on the same day.
Massive loss for 5 News in my view, Matt is one of the best and underrated newscasters out there. He's been a integral part of 5 News and will be missed as both a presenter and a Correspondent in his first stint . I wish him the very best for the Future.
I'd be Interested to see where he goes next presuming it was News related. For me ITV News, made a mistake on two occasions in not securing Matt's services. The first after Daybreak ended, and he had a period doing weekend bulletins for them. The second, I believe they should have signed him to co-present the ITV Evening News with Mary Nightingale when Mark Austin left. If I were them, I'd be eager to sign him up in some form of role, even if initially it combined relief/Friday and weekend presenting with some reporting, with a view to a main anchor role further down the line. Likewise, the BBC as others have suggested would be another possible destination.
