Quite strange, though the London Bombing coverage was complete with DOG and ticker, but usually with ITV News specials you get more the feeling of the ITV1 bulletin being smiulcast on the ITV News Channel, rather than the other way round. Doesn't matter too much with the same studio/graphics, but I've never liked the News 24 simulcasts.
With the London bombings, a DOG and ticker only appeared at around 1pm, when coverage had started at 10.15.
The fact that it is a NC simulcast has not been "heavily emphasised" at all. Both John and Steve have simply said something along the lines of "we now welcome ITV1 viewers to the ITV News Channel", which is what is normally said on a special simulcast; a similar thing is said on a N24 broadcast.

Interesting that each of the three specials has heavily emphasised that it's a News Channel simulcast, rather than a network news production - I should think that it's politically convenient for ITN To play on this aspect just at the moment.

In the past when there has been an ITV News Special on ITV1 it has been announced as such before the programme but NOT what happened today.
On the 12:35 'ITV News Special' Steve Scott welcomed viewers on ITV1 to the ITV News Channel - to my knowledge no-one has ever done that! In the past the ITV News Channel just used to join the ITV1 News Special with only a mention before the break saying something along the lines of,"next up is Steve Scott with an ITV News Special - stay with us."
Today's announcements has been a departure from what usually happens.

Whether it's the norm or not, it's still hardly a "heavy" emphasis - that sentence would hardly have pulled viewers over to the News Channel.
Interestinting to note that the splash headline has returned today to the BBC News website.

Not emphasised that heavily, no, but you were wrong in saying that it had happened before.

Chris Eakin has just made a slip - He described it as an attack. (Does he have any background to this that's not being let on?)
:-(
I found it odd this morning that Sky, ITV and BBC were not there cautious selfs, letting eyewitnesses tell us that it was almost something like a terror attack, plane down. I almost felt that they wanted it to be something serious.
NH
You're thinking EXACTLY the same as I said to 'er indoors.

The ITV News Channel coverage has been ok, whereas the ITV1 News Special was so much better.
Susan Bookbinder has taken over from Steve Scott who has been anchoring all day (well it seems like anyway)
In the middle of a report at 17:04 ITVNC cut into it to show live footage of further explosions - what follows is an exerpt of what the presenter said :-
"We now bring you live pictures on the itv news channel, these pictures are live from a camera on the m1 on the itv news channel. these live pictures show new explosions at hemel hempstead coming into us live at the itv news centre..." repeat ad infinum.
My favourite line was,".......and now we cross to live pictures from a tv camera, here on the itv news channel."
