What now for the marvellous Alastair Stewart

With the imminent demise of the ITV News Channel, what next for Alastair Stewart?, he's simply too darn good at what he does to concentrate solely on London Tonight. The man is network primetime through and through.

I'm hoping he'll be Mark's stand-in for the Nightly News, ready and waiting in the wings for when Austin powers on to the next chapter in his career.

I think that he will be more suited to the lunchtime news as he can use his skills as an interviewer more effectivly in that slot, in features such as the pulse. The Nightly news will be too rushed for long interviews.

Unless Sky poach him!

Stand-in on Nightly News, although IMO, he should be the principal anchor, and Austin should be relegated back to the Sport News on BBC News at the weekends.

Have to agree with you BBC WORLD, partly anyway. Alastair principal anchor on the Nightly News (ratings would soar, the bulletin would evolove to allow longer, more in-depth interviews), Mark on the Evening News with Mary/Felicity/Nina/Andrea/Katie/Layla et al.

I have said this all along.

I think Alistair would become the main deputy on the Lunchtime News, with Steve Scott deputising on the Evening News and anyone they can find for the Nightly News (James Mates is the most regular stand-in at the moment).

Alistair be great for C4 News - they could do with a high-profile weekend presenter considering they are the only terrestrial broadcaster that offer full 30-minute weekend news bulletins.

If poached by Sky, Alastair would be ideal for World News Tonight unlike James Rubin - that man is so dire and dull!

Enough already about who would be good for World News Tonight!

I like Alastair Stewart on the lunchtime. He always seems quite down to earth and adds a bit of humour (particularly in The Pulse).

Maybe he could present the Evening News as a stand-in.

I doubt he'll appear on the Evening News as it clashes with hosting London Tonight. He can stand in on the 12.30pm / 10.30pm and still present LT at 6pm.

Going slightly off topic, but with Felicity doing the sport on the 10.30pm I could see her becoming a regular host on London Tonight, with Katie just doing the Lunchtime News. I think it might be bye bye to Nina!

it must be time for Nina to swallow that half a pound of plums she's got in her mouth by now.
