Perhaps it will be more of a part-time role with Mark dividing his time between Washington and London and with it the inability to take on the full time nature of being a US Editor.

Nope.

It's not a surprise as such, but I agree with the sentiment of your post.

Mark Austin and Kay Burley as colleagues. Didn't seem plausible not that long ago...

(I like Kay, BTW.)

If Mark's only signed for a year, has someone else been appointed US editor (or similar title) but isn't due to start for some time because of personal circumstances/ work commitments?

Who - other than you guys - suggested there is to be any such thing as a U..S. Editor?

I'd also suggest your prognostication (perhaps unwittingly) strays into the realm of speculation about someone's personal life, which I would submit isn't in the best-of-taste. Please just wait and see... everyone's reading far too much into it.

Isn't it normal in the media that you are signed up for a set period? ie 1 year, 3 year, 5 year. Then you get renewed at the end.

I'm sure after the takeover if it goes through, there will be synergies for US content.

I'm not saying that necessarily the presenters/reporters and the actual work in front of the cameras, but surely there is going to be some pooling of resources for other things

The way things are going Fox could replace the news channel with UK style SKY news channel.
