Big interview with Mark Austin about taking on the 10.30 in today's Media Guardian:

Genuinely think Andrew Harvey would be good for the 6:30 because many viewers already know him from the six o'clock news through the eighties and nineties if Austin is doing the main evening news

I *personally* don't think he's the image that ITV News particularly want, hence he's shunted away on the News Channel and never fills in on ITV1. He co-presented the Lunchtime News once aaaages ago, but that's about it. Why would ITV replace the popular and far better looking Mark Austin with an old face from years ago on the BBC?

I'm sure Steve Scott will be presenting the Evening News in a few months time, when Mark Austin realises he can't be bothered doing 2 bulletins a day.

I see that as a fairly good overview of things.

I don't see Andrew Harvey as a particularly great presenter...though I'm sure you're only as good as the company you work for.

Steve Scott a definite favourite to take over the 6.30 for me.

Katie Derham was of course the one to test the water's presenting the Lunchtime News and then staying on to present London Tonight with Ali. That hasn't really worked out...so I doubt Mark is going to want to stick around to read the same scripts and play the same reports out at 10.30.

Good interview with Mark there.

I agree Steve Scott is the natural successor to Mark Austin on the Evening News, and he'll probably fill in far more regularly when Mark doubles up.

I think though if Mark had to choose one or the other, at the end of the day the Evening News gets double the number of viewers who watch the 10.30pm bulletin.

I would hazard a guess that Mark would pick the position that would pay him more, to be honest.

Yesterday's Daily Telegraph had a big interview with Mark Austin. And below it on the same page was news about Andrea Catherwood's twins.

Very interesting - especially about Terry Lloyd and his reasons for becoming a studio reporter.

..and on a lighter side, I thought this was quite funny.
