Either way, Sky will probably be working on an animating shotgun to overlay on the heads of his potential victims.

That's what they do - and that's why I don't watch Sky News.

Neither should you lot.

Out of interest, if you don't watch Sky News, how would you come up with this idea of yours?

My brain, dear.

They don't keep me round here because I'm gorgeous, you know.

Questionable the coverage this story is being given - the press seem to be playing right into his hands.

I think all of this media attention will be interpreted as positive reinforcement by other irrational would-be nutters, thereby increasing the likelihood of them carrying out similar actions in the future. I've no doubt that the coverage of the Cumbrian killings influenced Moat's decision to go on a spree himself, and as long as the media sensationalises the story, or gives any implication that the killer is a victim, this incident will in turn influence someone else.

I wouldn't say the coverage of Cumbria influenced this mans actions - but I would say the media are more than happy to link them even though the circumstances are quite different. Chances are without the ridiculous coverage he may have handed himself in or killed himself by now (or alternatively gone even more berserk), but the two are quite different situations IMO.

Preferably you wouldn't call me dear.

I understand you have used your brain to process ideas - that's how it works, in theory - but is it based on opinions you formulated about watching Sky years ago or on something else entirely?

Back on topic (-ish), early counts show that Sky beat BBC news in the viewing figures yesterday. Must be the first time in a while.

Well I'm certainly not referring to you as a fictional myopic cartoon character.

So I shall call you nothing.

Live at five with Jeremy
Sky have once again shown they're coverage has been much better than the BBC's. Having Kay and Jeremy along with local correspondents and Martin Brunt works very well. They were quickest to get off the mark and their coverage has been excellent I feel and the early rating figures would suggest this.

What early rating figures are you referring to? Can't say I've seen any.

I assume you opted not to read the thread before posting?

I have read the thread and I disagree with people criticising Sky's coverage with many not even watching what they are telling us.

The BBC One News didn't lead with this story and I don't think they've sent any high profile presenters to the scene yet. ITV sent James Mates. Sky are the only giving wall to wall coverage.

Splendid. Now that's sorted, can we go back to my question please.

Are your current views based on opinions you formulated about watching Sky years ago or on something else entirely?

Other people are giving reasons why they don't like the coverage - why don't you tell us why you think the coverage is excellent. At the same time, why not join in with the debate about whether the media frenzy around cases like this may actually cause the scale of these cases in the first place, rather than just repeating your same script of "their coverage has been excellent"? Here's a starter for ten - do you feel it would be a good thing for Sky News and UK broadcasting in general, if they manage to broadcast live pictures of the capture and likely shooting of the suspect?

Don't be daft - there are days I can't remember how old I am.

Of course I tune in to Sky News - and after 5 or 10 minutes I tune away. I did throughout the election (Burley - urgh, Boulton - wuh?) and I did during the shooting spree of a couple of weeks ago.

I understand that some may like it. Some may find it exciting and informative. I find it tabloidesque, and sometimes hysterical. And then there's some of their better known hosts who make my flesh creep.

We're here to share our individual opinions - and mine is that they positively froth at the mouth over stories of this nature - and judging by some of the comments in this very discussion I'm not alone.

So let me ask you - do you think they are handling this story well? Does having Burley roaming the streets with microphone and facile questions at the ready mean good coverage?
