BBC One just had a junction but didn't have a news flash.

Sort of hoped this would go on all night!

Seems like it's all over.

The BBC are missing the press conference now. John Sopel will be turning in his bed! All his hard work for nothing.

But what the press conference said was essentially the same as what was relayed from the written statement by the reporter on the BBC some minutes earlier

That is Sky's call. They may well stand outside the hospital all night. The inevitable mobile phone footage of him being shot and jumped on by the police will be released at some point too.

This is almost like a conference for Sky cause only Andrew is asking questions.
Does BBC even have a reporter there still?

Not true, ITN's Emma Murphy asked a few questions first and I believe others (maybe the BBC reporter) were questioning too. Wilson persisted though with unanswerable questions and even managed to fit in "you're live on Sky News"... jeez.

EDIT: and how many times must Kay Burley say "Stand by, Andrew"?!

Television is a visual medium, it's about being at the scene - not just newscasters reading from a statement. Sky were late to the scene, but stayed to the end. Major fail for the BBC but kudos for their earlier coverage.

Burley's hopes to narrate a major gunbattle have been dashed.

However much we love the BBC, I don't think we can pretend it was an editorial decision to miss the press conference. They are simply over stretched with too many outlets when compared to Sky News.

Will all these reporters get overtime?

I've noticed that some journalists just take over press conferences, ego mania.

BBC World was with News channel only for the first 5 minutes for a short news update at 1am, they are not keeping them from covering this, at least not this hour.
