Kay Burley live at the sealed off village.

This is a big big story.

Sky News spoke to a local woman live earlier today and she started talking about Braveheart. For some reason they spoke to her again later on. She did not mention Braveheart the second time. Sky also spoke to a woman on the phone who spoke about not being able to have friends round for tea and scones.

Questionable the coverage this story is being given - the press seem to be playing right into his hands.

As I said in the ITV news thread Emma Murphey was inside the exclusion zone on todays LN ( not sure if it was live or not) - but it seemed like it was recordered on something like a camcorder ( poor quality) - but i suppose to be fair they might not be able to get a proper camera crew in.

It would be a major coup if one of the news stations were to get footage of him either before the police find him or when inevitably the police find him.

Would it though - really?

In the event they get the footage of him being arrested, does having it on video really add much to the story in these circumstances?

And in the event they capture him on video before he is caught, would it be responsible to be broadcasting it live?

Of course it would, that's what makes the story so interesting. Call me a sensationalist but imagie Sky caught a shootout live, it would be fascinating to see how the BBC/ITV report it etc.

Of course it does.

Did any UK broadcaster show the picture of the shot policeman? I heard the BBC say they had chosen not to and I haven't noticed Sky showing it. I haven't noticed it on TV at all actually. What did ITV and Channel 4 do?

EDIT: Both Sky and BBC stopped using live pictures at about 16:50. Sky lost the pictures during a Kay Burley interview and are now presenting from the Sky News Centre. BBC were using live helicopter shots and changed to recorded helicopter shots. Maybe something is happening.

EDIT AGAIN: Live pictures came back on both channels at about 16:53. Maybe it was just a technical problem that affected them both.

Is it really though? Of course it's a significant story which does deserve coverage . . . and the one death and two injuries are of course tragic, but its turned into a bit of a media frenzy. I don't think, certainly at this stage, that this is one of those stories that deserves a 'big name' presenting live from the scene.

Not to be disrespectful, but if this thing had happened before the events in Cumbria last month, I don't think it would be getting this amount of coverage.

EDIT: Two 'big names' now from Sky . . . Jeremy Thompson live as well. Standing in front of a field. Adding absolutely nothing to the story.
