Let Nick Owen tell you.

Also add your suggestions here.

Here here! In saying that, you won't want a partnership like that of Jackie and David - the young-and-cool and old-but-fit pretenders then! Razz

When I first saw this title I was going to suggest "A good off screen chemistry" but like the excellent Mr Owen has said it really is that. It is evident that him and Suzanne get on and I do argee with his sentiment, when you've a "couple" presenting a programme the relationship between them is vital - just take the six...

I think a shared sense of humour is vital... just look at Phil and Fern. Not newsreaders I know; but they are a brilliant presenting-duo, and because they have the same sense of humour, they know how to 'work' each other and they obviously get on well.

Sometimes contrasting personalities work-- a duo with contrasting personalities can as foil for each other.

I don't think chemistry has any place on news programmes ... just shut up and read the autocue, please.

I agree however that for entertainment shows it requires both people to get on off screen.

That would be a neat trick.

ah, you got me there ! Laughing
well, you know ... I mean who cares how newsreader A reacts to a superfluous remark from newsreader B. They usually add nothing meaningful and are cringeworthy in the given context.

What are you talking about you Parrot - Parrot - Parrot??
Of course chemistry has a place on regional news, much more so than ever before. As ITV has just about killed off any form of regional identity, the only way it can keep its head above the corporate vultures is for the news presenters to inject whatever enthusiasm they can!

I certainly agree with that! Central News East's and Calender's presenters are just about the only advantages the programmes have over their respective BBC rivals.

And what happens when a vt fails or a live link goes down or an interview has to be cut short because the interviewee faints... soothing music and picture of a kitten. It's at these times that the chemistry is important, knowing what your colleague wants you to do to without words... it makes all the difference.
