So it's getting on for 90mins since the crash. Sometimes none of the news teams seem to be that quick at getting to a scene.

I know it depends on where the satellite trucks are based and other logistics, but Newbury isn't really out in the sticks is it?

I wonder if the SkyCopter has been scrambled, or if the pilot is already out on the beer?

Just cause a truck might be in eg White City or Isleworth, it doesn't mean that there is a crew available...

ITV News reporter Philip Reay-Smith has now reached the scene. Still no pictures yet from ITV though.

The train, on impact, has travelled 1100yards ruffly 3/4 of a mile before coming to rest.

(3rd death apparantly)

Did News 24 simucast the BBC One bulletin?

And I had a strange feeling Casualty would be cancelled.

It seems Meridian now have a reporter on the scence but still no pictures.

We can only wonder why a car was on they level crossing - as they do have major safety features built in.

Someone Sky News spoke to said he heard that the driver had parked on the level crossing to deliberatly commit suicide but didn't speculate further.

Cheers for the updates! Its hard keeping up-to-date from my desk, where the nearest tv is about a five minute walk from here!

Not really. There is a barrier on either side of the road and a phone. WIth a train approaching the barrier falls & lights flash. The signal further up the railway line changes to green and train can pass.

If the car was to break down then the driver did not contact the signal man from the emergency phone located at the crossing. So it is possible they have broken down on the line on driving round the barrier and not contacted for help for obvious reasons.
