Alas, Rob, I wasn't able to see any of today's coverage. But I hope to see some highlights tonight, probably on Sky News.

By all accounts, Sky won Sunday, Sky/BBC Monday and ITN Tuesday.

And Kay Burley, no less, as the News Queen for the Queen.

Whatever, we've just witnessed something that none of us will ever see again. Incredible. A Diamond Jubilee.

I absolutely agree I thought the entire coverage of the Diamond Jubilee was incredible capturing a truly historic moment in history that might not happen for another century. Irrespective of the Queen having a ceremonial role as Head of State in comparison to other world leader's her 60 year reign is trully historic and she is a global icon. I thought on balance the coverage was appropriate.

I also agree that Sky definetely won on Sunday with their superb coverage of the Pageant. Whilst BBC did extremely well with their coverage of the Diamond Jubilee Concert last night attracting a massive peak of 17.09 million viewers which is incredibly impressive.

However, as with the Royal Wedding last year I think ITV won hands down today in my opinion. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion's but I thought they captured the atmosphere extremely well. In addition, Mark Austin getting lost in the crowds in the mall and surrounded by the Scouts again was an absolute laugh Very Happy . I also liked the warm and strong chemistry between Julie Etchingham and Philip Schofield. I definetely think ITV should consider exploring new TV projects with Julie and Philip together in the future.

Although, to be fair both BBC and Sky News had improved their coverage of the Diamond Jubilee in comparison to the Royal Wedding. I did enjoy commentary from Alistair Bruce on Sky news alongside Eamonn Holmes.

The remarkable achievement of living to ripe old age? If that does make a difference, it's purely on a symbolic level. And I just can't accept that something symbolic really is a major world news event. A newsworthy story, yes, but one of just many things happening on our planet these days.

I was about to take issue with some of your other points in that post, until I reached that comment. It shows that you are totally out of touch with what the British monarchy is all about. We're not celebrating the fact that she's reached a ripe old age. We're celebrating the enormous dedication that she has shown for 6 decades not just to the UK but also to all of the Commonwealth nations around the world. You show me another person who has dedicated his or her life since the age of 25 - without a break - to the service of their country and I'll take your point. I think the mere fact that she's managed to stay politically neutral for so long is an achievement in itself. If you so fundamentally misunderstand this fact, then there's no point in debating with you any further.

Fair enough.

BBC One West currently showing BBC News Channel - where's Points West?

EDIT: It started, 4 or 5 minutes late, odd, hopefully won't crash into Queen's message now...

EDIT2: Very quick bulletin, 2 stories, then a very flustered presenter wrapped up, reading a brief weather forecast. No idea what happened there.

Seems fine on DSat.
(Is this the right thread for this?)

It seems that adding an airing onto BBC Alba has had the curious effect of turning the branding on the Jubilee Message page into that of a BBC Alba programme...

Seemed it started about 5 mins late as we had news channel until then . Very poor ending with a promise of 'a proper weather forecast in our late bulletin '.

Seeing as the speech was credited as 'An ITN Production' and the 2011 Christmas speech was produced by Sky News, I'm presuming this year's Christmas speech will be produced by the BBC? Or do ITN still do it because it isn't counted?

It was almost as if the queen had a reaction shot during that speech! Camera 1, then Camera 2, then Camera 1. Laughing

I think it's a Sky production again this year. From memory, each broadcaster gets 2 years before it moves on.

Yes, commonwealth countries should see it live and they probably are... on their own channels.

It really isn't something that the whole world will sit and watch live. People in places like China or Russia don't care, nor would most of Europe... the international news channels don't cover similar events held for the Dutch or Scandinavian Royal Families.

For the likes of CNN, Russia Today and AJ a 2 minute package of highlights, maybe a live reporter is all that's needed

If China and Russia don't care their relevent news stations won't be covering it. If they do they will. Similarly international stations are there to serve their audience - not checked the coverage but I'd expect CNN to go all out on it but RT and AJ to keep it brief, but they'll basically be serving the majority of their audience. They'll always be some that don't want blanket coverage, but I think most channels both internationally and domestically have made the right call.

Domestically it's clearly the biggest event happening in the UK this weekend, so deserves the coverage it's getting - and internationally it's arguably the biggest event happening in the world this weekend - and as such warrants the coverage too. The Euro will still be in crisis, Syria still in bloodsheed and David Cameron still a wanker come Wednesday morning.

Not only since she came to the throne - even before then, on her 21st birthday. "I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong."

How many 21 year olds would make such as promise, and keep it for 65 years? Absolutely remarkable. The only other monarch to reach a Diamond Jubilee was Victoria, and she had been in mourning for most of her reign. The Queen is an outstanding person, worthy of all the pomp and pageantry. And what a great advert for Britain! Cheaper than Olympics and shown around the world. Tourist industry is rubbing its hands with glee.
