Must be the first time in a long time David Cameron has had a name super on the Beeb.

Another reason to turn off the Beeb! I would say though they've been a bit closer than last year though, but I do think in trying to make their coverage a bit less formal it's actually just highlighting how the BBC haven't really got their own equivalent of Phillip Schofield - a generic presenter who can easily handle a more formal occassion. It's also worth noting he's pretty much the only non-news faced on the team, yet on BBC most of the reporters seem to be non-news faces.

And talking of supers - I said this last year but really really annoys me how on the BBC News they stick someone outside Buckingham Palace and then feel the need to stick a live strap on screen telling us where they are.

P.S. Great ratings last night - 14.7m (57.4%), peaking at 17m - up on the figures from 2002 (12.54m (56%),
peaking at 15.1m).

Sky News could have the best commentary in the world, but I would still prefer to watch BBC One where there's no annoying screen junk Smile

I haven't seen any astons on Sky News all day, apart from the ticker!

Mark encountering the scouts again. Hilarious!

So basically BBC intentionally picks the most culminating moments to switch over to Fearne Cotton drivel. Unbelievable. Shocked

Didely Squit!
ITV by far has the best coverage for this, even if it's just to watch Mark Austin being miserable in the crowd amongst a group of Scouts!

Dame Kelly Homes is good at running, she isn't very good at talking on television. Why don't people notice this?

Sky News just had pictures from two cameras of an escaped horse. I didn't see that on BBC One or ITV 1. BBC One are currently in pre-recorded mode for some reason.

I spotted it on the BBC International feed - possibly the same one that Sky are taking. At the time, BBC were with Huw.

I noticed this.

Unfortunately I'm not in charge of picking guests for BBC One.

Or packing them off to ITV half an hour later.

It would be nice if the BBC at least were offering an uninterrupted live stream with no commentary on Freeview - 301 seems to just be showing a holding caption this afternoon.

ITV wins for me hands down. Apart from the odd dodgy moment - including a terrible echo on Nina Hossain's mic at the moment, its been exactly the right tone. Any time I've switched over to BBC One they seemed to be showing a 'One Show'-type feature. At one point, I thought I had flicked over to Bargain Hunt.

I also noticed, while the crowds were approaching the gates of the Palace, the BBC had Jake Humphrey interviewing Mark Foster about Olympic swimming prospects - now I get that the BBC want to promote their 'Big Summer', but this wasn't the time to do it - today is all about the pomp and pageantry.

ITV are quite rightly sticking with the pictures and talking to the people.

And Mark Austin . . . priceless.

BBC1 seem to be trying to do too much. ITV1 have mostly just been showing what's going on with someone knowledgable talking about it, and whenever I switch to BBC1 they're off at some random OB (Fearne Cotton, Paloma Faith and jelly was a particular low) or showing a VT that adds nothing to the occasion, when they could easily stay with the live pictures.

Also sticks out as many have said that BBC1 is stuffed with light/celeb presenters and ITV1 - Schofield aside - are entirely news-based, and it shows. Who would have thought it would be that way around a few years back?
