I don't the BBC were too far wrong with their efforts - I'd have just put Huw on commentary rather than in a studio away from the action bookending the show and just cut down the number of reporters they had around - only Claire was really in a position of interest. I'm sure the Daily Mail will take great delight in slamming the number of people involved tomorrow.

I don't really see what was wrong with it either. It was a lot better than what they could have done which is 4 hours of long shots of random boats with dry voice over.

I don't think they could have covered it in the way they did without having a lot of presenters. It's wasn't a single location event - it happened over a wide area and once a presenter and crew is on a boat they are there until the end. So unless they wanted to mess things up by having a speed boat shuttling between the proper boats they needed a lot of presenters

However not all were necessary - I'm still not sure what Anneka Rice's bit was about

BBC News appears to be going for a weekend approach with its presenters today. Emily Maitlis & Rachel Schofield have been presenting since 9am. I imagine there will be a handover at 1pm like on weekends.

I think the momentous shot from the day was The Queen on the barge going through Tower Bridge. That is the shot they will be showing in 100 years time. But no the BBC preferred to have Fearne Cotton/Tess Daly interviewing some old bloke while on Sky we saw the Queen passing through the bridge. Summed up BBC's coverage for me.

Shame about the weather but some great coverage today. It's also a shame it seemed the BBC decided to cut away for interviews with reporters/presenters (some we haven't seen for years) at pinnacle moments.

And some we didn't want to see eg Fearne Cotton & Tess Daly!

Anneka Rice was the only one feeling the cold I noticed, wearing gloves!

I was watching the Wright Stuff this morning and all but one caller to the show was appalled at the BBC's coverage.

Although The Wright Stuff are right, it's a bit rich for them to be sniggering at the BBC coverage when you realise how pathetic Channel 5 News is!

That's a bit of an odd conclusion to come to, I don't think Matt Wright and his show's viewers represent the view of Channel 5 management.

Yes, indeed. Matthew Wright did stand up for the BBC saying something along the lines of it would be rather boring if all the coverage was just the boats with not a lot else happening.

That's the thing - they also missed the first Royal Salute, talking to Ben Fogle and having a close up shot of him rather than the wide shot. By the time they cut to the wide shot they all had their oars up.

It'll be interesting to see if ITV benefit in any way tomorrow from the criticism the BBC got on Sunday and with them getting the critical victory at least with the Royal Wedding last year. There isn't a chance in hell they'll outrate the BBC, but they might close the gap slightly.

I can't believe they missed this. Shocked I was watching it on CNN and was thinking what a historic moment and what the Queen must be thinking. Would preferred some more close ups of her when she was directly at the bridge.

What a big fail from BBC.

Not really, they're making valid points but they aren't really able to slate somebody elses news coverage when their own is terrible.

Not wanting to stray too far off topic, but I think your comment is rather unfair. Channel 5 News may not be to your taste, but if you consider the demographic at which it is aimed, I think it's a pretty decent production. Personally, I think it's come on leaps and bounds again since going back to ITN. There's none of that awful Live at Studio 5 crap, and I've seen quite a few of ITN's editions since February and I've been pleasantly surprised. It's not all just celebrity and showbiz fluff; I think their political reporting is pretty decent all things considered. And let's not forget that it was Channel 5 and ITN who revolutionised British TV news back in 1997, just as ITN did with ITV in 1955. It's often ITN who set the trend in the TV news business, which is rather amazing considering the size of their budgets compared to the BBC or Sky.

Their own? Viewers of a particular programme on one mainstream channel are typically viewers of other programmes on other channels. Most viewers of the Wright Stuff, for all we know, may never even watch Five's news, let alone be responsible for it. Those commenting were presumably watching BBC at some stage yesterday.

If, and when, either Five or ITN make an official comment on the BBC's coverage, your view of their opinions *MAY* be valid, but I don't see how it can possibly apply to viewers of a different programme.

By the way, am I right in recalling that for the Jubilee coverage yesterday, BBC One used the Lawn Circles ident? Of all the idents to use... why this one?

Too bad they won't be rebranding for a while now, it seems.

Anneka retired from presenting for five years at the end of the 1990's and studied painting at chelsea Art College, Add to that the fact that Canaletto's painting was the inspiration for the whole event the BBC clearly wanted to show how modern day painters were recording the event. I thought it was a good idea but without the background knowledge of Anneka's life her participation did seem a bit random.

I'm giving up news until Wednesday. I don't think I can stomach any more vox pops of screeching, over exicted, middle aged women dressed head to toe in Union Jack tat.
