I've just seen another advert for Torn on ITV. I am stunned ITV haven't postponed it due to similarities with the Maddie McCann case. Come on ITV, sort it out.
Kellie, Weston-super-Mare

Why on earth should they postpone it. What effect is it possibly going to have. Obviously the McCann-Canns won't be watching it, but that's hardly a reason to subject the rest of the population to an unnecessary schedule change.

If everything was postponed or cancelled due to events in the media, we wouldn't have any TV to watch at all. People are too quick to blur the lines between reality and fiction these days.

Read the interview with Holly Aird on Teletext (if it's still there). She thinks there is no need to pull Torn because of current events.

Absolutely. It really annoys me when TV companies decide to, or are pressured into, postpone or cancel shows because of recent events. As you rightly said, TV soaps, dramas, sitcoms are all fiction and shouldn't be censored because of real life. In this case, why are the bloody McCanns so important? At this given moment, there are probably loads of families in the UK with missing kids, yet they aren't considered in this decision. If the McCanns weren't currently in the media, we wouldn't even be having this discussion about Torn. I don't know about all programmes, but I know at the end of Neighbours there is a disclaimer about similarities between storylines and real life. As far as I'm concerned, that covers them and they should be allowed to air programmes without this constant barrage of whining people.

News Knight with Trevor McDonald would relish covering this story from a more neutral point of view.

Don't be stupid, they wouldn't touch this story with a bargepole.

Today's Obsess again shows a further swing towards the McCanns:

Incidentally, the Daily Hate Mail is also running with Madeleine. About a 'last dance' Mr McCann had with his daughter.

Now, has Madeleine been found? No. Has anyone been charged? No.

It appears both papers are completely bipolar.

Agreed, but in all fairness the Daily Obsess has been far more bipolar.

I see today that the McCanns have said they're willing to take a lie detector test to prove their innocence.

'Jeremy Kyle Show Special' anyone?

Laughing Although those lie-detector editions aren't really "specials", since they seem to form the staple diet of JK's output! Wink

Patrick Kielty's jokes about Madeleine have caused audience members to walk out of his stage show:

In Dublin, yes. However at a show in London, they found the same jokes hillarious.

Well he did hold a vote as to whether the parents were guilty or not.

Well what did those people expect with Patrick Kielty, he's not known for his un-PC humour. It's funny that when he tells jokes about the Troubles, IRA terrorism etc everyone laughs-- yet a few McCann jokes cause outrage!
