Anna Botting isn't in Portugal anymore.

I believe it's only Ian Woods and Amanda Walker now. Woods said in his article he would be home for the weekend.

I have not ventured into this thread before because I was afraid that it would be people pouring out their sympathies.

I am now glad to see that some people are seeing this in the same way as me.

One person is missing. Just because they were born in this country and this side of the millenium this is aparantly so much more important that 50 Iraqi 30 year olds being killed.

I am also sure there is more to this than there seems, but I am not going to risk making a libelous statement. If anybody would like to PM me about this on the other hand.....

I had a brief look at the UK website Missing Kids last night, and IIRC there have been 45 British minors that have gone missing/abducted in the past five years on their database.

Would it be crass to suggest they are worthy of media attention just like Madeleine? Something to think about anyway.

From The Sun's website today...

We remember the lost children
SINCE disappearance of Maddie estimated 1,100 children have gone missing in Britain

So how many of them have they featured on their front page? Rolling Eyes

Although I do feel for the McCann family and pray for Maddie's safe return, it's getting a bit tedious now coverage-wise. OK, it's front page news around Europe, but too much of one story could be seen as overkill.

I'm currently in the process of downloading (for work I must stress) 'A Song For Madeleine' which is to be broadcast simultaneously on commercial radio stations across the UK at 8am sharp on Monday. It's a version of Simple Minds' 'Don't You Forget About Me' with added news snippets and sound-bites over it.

There's something wrong with this country.

In our modern celebrity world (god knows how much money Maddy's parents will make) I fear we may well see a copycat attempt at free publicity with fake kidnappings and the like. Actually, that sounds like a decent idea for a film.

Hmm, indeed. Good special actually, just show it anyway. But that song, that actually makes me feel more angry at our dumb little country for getting swept up in so much pretentious and selfish over-emotion *glares at rob*.

As has been said, it's sad but over-exposure makes people accept it more and eventually it becomes little more than white noise. Care but don't do it for one girl, do it for others who go lost. Do it for people caught up in conflict through no fault of their own, don't go and write a song and force it onto people in order to rack up more pageinches, airtime and money for no good reason besides the selfish desires of those who follow this foolish hoedown of a story brought on by incompetence and the smell of a fresh kill for some lousy journo who kicked this all off.

Stay away from Sky News. They've played their interview out four times now. The entire hour has been dedicated to this.

I agree with Nini.

And I don't want to sound like a cynic, but lets face it, there's about a 95-100 percent chance that the girl will be found dead. No one goes missing this long and is found alive and well. Sarah Payne, went missing, was found dead. Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman went missing, were found dead. And I'm pretty sure that the same will happen to Madeline. And if she was kidnapped, all of this mass coverage is surely going to make the kidnapper panic and dump her somewhere. I'm glad there are people who think the same here, I suggested this to my Mum and she went crazy at me!
