And now on the Daily Mail website.

"However, in recent weeks, some elements of the Portugese media have been conducting what appears to be a smear campaign against the McCanns, in an apparent attempt to distract attention from the police's failure to crack the case."

Funny how the media always strike up some national pride in these cases, ignoring the raw facts to say the British party must be innocent and it is the foreigners who are at fault for everything..

hmmm, if there is any truth in the rumour then it will be very difficult, if a little embarrassing, for almost every media outlet in the uk to report given their gushing support for team mccann.

I went to Jessops today to print some photos.

I only realised afterwards that if I had told them they were holiday snaps from the Maddy resort I could have had them printed for free to "help the investigation".

I'm still surprised they haven't investigated the Mccanns further.

Because of the secretive way the Portuguese Police operate it's difficult to know quite how extensively Team McCann have themselves been investigated.

I would imagine that if the "blood" in the apartment does turn out to be just that, then it would be increasingly difficult for the Police to ignore the possibility of their involvement. I doubt whether a random abducter would've hung around to wipe the walls clean (missing child would be a clue that something had happened) - so it tends to point to someone who had more time on their hands Shocked

Did anybody get to read Kate McCann's interview in the IoS last weekend? I found her account convincing, but then was shocked when she told us that

I know this is in another thread, perhaps we ought to keep all this together in one place unless it needs to be deleted for legal reasons.

The Portuguese Police "appear" to be investigating the McCanns, in particular phone/text messages etc.

I know we shouldn't presume anything. But as I said in a previous post, we were not aware of the direction of the Police investigation. It is very difficult to criticise something you don't have any knowledge about. It appears perhaps the Portuguese have not really been idle at all.

AFAIK this has not been reported on UK TV at all.

I find it slightly odd how the British media all seems to be 'shielding'/protecting the McCanns from any criticism. It seems if a foreign journalist/press starts publicly asking or printing anything that could work its way back to the UK public they seem quick to criticise them, for instance with the Portuguese press in saying their trying to divert attention away from the lack of progress the police are making etc.. In this case they appear not to be even mentioning it, though I guess the reason might be that they don't have a 'reliable source' to use (though since when has that stopped the papers).

Are we sure that the McCanns aren't related to Max Clifford in any way? I seem to recall him appearing in an interview a couple months ago in regards to the media coverage.

Whilst there is no known (public) evidence that the McCanns were involved with their child's disappearance (except for leaving her alone in the room whilst they ate) I wonder how the press would act *if* they were charged. Some of the papers have a habit of suddenly turning against something, even when they had been previously supporting a cause.

Hypothetically speaking, if the parents were found to be in some way responsible, what would happen to the Madeleine Fund and the donations made to it? Perhaps thats why the British media are choosing not to report this angle, the public backlash would be devastating for all the media outlets who promoted these funds and would also no doubt harm reputable charities. I wonder how much money this has made the parents.

I know the McCanns have talked to many media moguls regarding their 'campaign to raise awareness' or in other words their tour of the world with the odd meeting with a world leader. Rolling Eyes What I dont like is how they have constantly lied in the press about the distance between the apartment and the tapas bar. You have to go down some steps, along a path, turn, along another path, throgh some doors, past a swimming pool and then to the bar its self.

Like its being in your back garden my arse .

This is all getting very odd. Opinion: Why is Kate McCann never looking distraught? You'd think everytime we see them in the spotlight - she'd be crying into her husbands arms. Still each to their own I suppose.
