I've just seen the latest publicity stunt on BBC N24 - an enormous inflatable poster showing Maddy - kindly donated by the NOTW no doubt since a quarter of the space is taken up by their logo.

As for visiting the Pope, that's just taking things too far. Are they even catholic ? I suppose one of his priests could have taken her, they're into kiddy-fiddling.

I suppose next will be a trip to Hollywood to meet the stars (just in case she was seen at the Oscars Ceremony).

I have a new suggestion, a respectful 10 minute silence at the TOTH by all reporters in Portugal. Rolling Eyes

Just got back from Torquay and while stuck in the holiday maker traffic I saw a house with a find maddy poster in the window.

I did keep my eye out for her while I was fighting my way though the town centre but alas she was no where to be found!

Will have to write to TeamMccan and inform them of my investigation and tell them that she's not in Torquay.... well not that I could see.

Perhaps TeamMcCann could phone the helpline with an anonymous sighting in somewhere even nicer than Portugal like the Maldives. I'm sure the media would pay for a month out there for them on the basis of it.

And when it gets a bit cooler in the northern hemisphere they could conjure up sightings in Australia etc.

Yes, they are devout Roman Catholics, and anyone can go to the general audience with the Pope, there are 40,000 spaces to fill each Wednesday, so don't just say things for the sake of it.

There are thousands of priests in this world, are you suggesting that they are all child abusers? And, as far as anyone can guess, the missing girl could be in Rome or anywhere in Europe by now... so itf one poster somewhere in the middle of Europe contributes to finding her, then so be it, but to achieve that you need to raise awareness everywhere...

the school weekly newsletter had an item on her - the largest item actually basically saying the headteacher of another local school is the godfather of sean and is appealing for everyone to forward it to any contacts in europe and to download posters - also links to 2 websites: findmadeleine; sky.com

the first thing i thought was for godsake there's no escape and then i thought oh my god they are doing absolutely everything they can - if ever madeleine isn't found no-one could ever say they didn't try and do everything they could. Maybe whoever's got her will get so fedup with the appealing they'll let her go and then we can all get a bit of peace. one thing's for sure whatever the outcome their life will never be the same again.

SB, this was I believe, a joke. A light-hearted look at the situation. You really don't need to take offence at the situation.

They don't need the media to pay for them, the limited company they set up has had around 300 thousand pounds in donations, that will be able to fund the world tour, pay off the mortgage and pay for a large scale reunion party.

OK, I didn't read this thread so I didn't know most of you share the same thoughts as I do about this case - it' became a shameless media circus. Yes we all feel for the little girl , maybe even her parents, but this is all too much. Is this the first time a child went missing? There were cases like this before, and those parents didn't make a parade of it, like the McCanns.
This weekend I saw an interview with a mother whose little boy Ben was abducted in Greece a few years ago. This story really made me sad. They didn't have all those donations and media frenzy like the McCanns, so is their son less worthy? No I think they are just normal people who let the police do what the can,and hope for the best, without all the media stunts and crazy things which make the mcCanns look like a joke.

LOL.
I share your scepticism here, it seems to me (whilst not genuinely doubting they are upset by what has happend) that they are really milking it for all it's worth.

That's an under-statement. I anticipate a "Jeremy Kyle-type" show on Sky with Team-McCann pouring their hearts out in the best US snivelling fashion.

I'm sure their media career will all fall apart when either one of the following happens:
Arrow It was found that Maddy never existed at all, and the pics are really a photo-shoot by an unknown child wannabe
Arrow She is found under the patio behind the apartment
Arrow Her Uncle/Grandad/Father is arrested and charged with murder
Arrow She is found in the UK and they simply forgot to take her on holiday
Arrow The parents are eventually charged with negligence

Have NASA sent her picture into space yet, just in case she's been abducted by aliens?
