I'm going to be graduating this year and I've decided that I'd like to do an MA in Broadcast Journalism.

I'd like the MA to be aimed at television broadcast, does anybody know or can recommend any good courses and universities for such a course?

Thanks very much!

Totally unbiased of course, but my university - London College of Communication does a Broadcast Journalism postgrad. It's at Elephant & Castle (not all good...) but the facilities are very new and modern. It's BJTC accredited too, which is a good thing employers look for. It's a bit biased towards radio, but not a bad bias to have because working in radio news will usually lead to bigger and better things, providing you've got the talent.

But of course there are MUCH better universities out there at much better universities. Laughing Would thoroughly recommend the Nottingham or Leeds courses - have also heard good things about Falmouth and Sheffield too.

Pop along to the BJTC website for the best courses to do.

Cardiff or Bournemouth, from memory, are the two most people seem to go for.

Cardiff has a good reputation ..

I'll second Cardiff.

Good reputation, great modern city (not THAT welsh...)

Falmouth is a bit radio/paper...and a bit difficult to get to...and winter in cornwall is very bleak

It's not that bad, that part of cornwall tends to be a few degrees warmer than further inland during the winter and a few degree cooler in the summer.

Much rather spend the winter there than some parts of the country

Coming back to the original question, if you actually want to work as a journalist you'd be far better off doing a post-graduate course rather than an MA

Erm... an MA is a post-graduate course. It's a stage up from a post-grad diploma.

I'm doing the Broadcast Journalism diploma at Cardiff right now - top stuff!

There are a lot of postgrad courses out there, but not many of them are particularly respected, so make sure you choose a decent one.

But the main diffrence is that an MA is theorectical whereas Post-Gradutate Diplomas tend to be more vocational. Their aim is to provide more than just the academic qualification hat an MA does.

I know of a PGdip Journalism course where virtually everyone who graduates (and soem who don't) walk stright into jobs at TV and Radio stations.
