Sure...every news presenter just jumps on a train to London from the far north to present on the ITV news Channel. Louisa Preston has obviously worked in news for a long time (Channel 5, etc) so she has probably built herself a reputation. But if it was that easy for all freelancers...everybody would be doing it...and everyone isn't.

In the case of ITV News Channel everyone is, look at Lynda Bryans for example, all the way from Northern Ireland

Yes, but your talking about experienced presenters. I'm talking about freelancers who are fairly new to the media.

With all due respect, you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. A freelancer is a freelancer. Experienced or unexperienced, they will travel. ITV News Channel makes extensive use of regional presenters. It is worth the while of the presenters to travel. And in 2005, it isn't too amazing they travel into London for a shift. If anything at all, it would be "unexperienced presenters fairly new to the media" - whatever on earth that means - who would be travelling rather than "experienced" ones.

You cleary have no idea what you are talking about. Do you think that everybody who has a degree in journalism can present on the ITV News Channel? If you do, your cleary living on another planet. So don't patronise me like that again please. Your no Trevor McDonald yourself DAS...whatever that name means.

Just a quick question. A few weeks ago Louisa Preston was reporting and presenting bulletins on Granada. But she also presents for the ITV News Channel. Does anyone know why this is? It's just a bit strange.

Presenters from the ITV Regional news teams do turn up on the News channel. Sometimes Lucy Owen from ITV Wales News does a shift presenting on the news channel at weekends.

Lol...I know that now. What I am just trying to put across is the fact that not all freelancers present on the ITV News Channel.

DAS has a damn sight more idea what he's talking about than you do.

He's quite right - the presenters who travel tend to be the middle-ranking ones, with enough experience to cut it at ITN but not too expensive for what is a little-watched digital channel.

You don't get the Bob Warmans, Fred Dinenages and Mike Nevilles of this world on the News Channel, but you do get those presenters who are likely to go further with their careers and are willing to spend their weekends working all hours at Gray's Inn Road.

That's a meaningless statement.

No one said that they did

Well Lucy Owen does sometimes and she is the best presenter ITV Wales have.

Yes, I'm so sorry Londoner. I must not question you, after all it does sound like your permanent life indoors is spent studying news presenters and news channels. How awful of me, Londoner and DAS, I'm truly sorry.

I nearly stopped reading after the second word, but soldiered on and lost interest anyway. I didn't claim to be Trevor McDonald - I'm the wrong colour and was brought up in Essex.

Good luck in your quest for knowledge.
