Just a quick question. A few weeks ago Louisa Preston was reporting and presenting bulletins on Granada. But she also presents for the ITV News Channel. Does anyone know why this is? It's just a bit strange.

What's particularly 'strange' about that? Both are part of the ITV News Group.

Erm...maybe its because Granada is in Manchester and ITN is in London? Did you consider that?

I know Virgin Trains can be unreliable, but surely it doesn't take 'weeks' to get between Manchester and London...

Sure...every news presenter just jumps on a train to London from the far north to present on the ITV news Channel. Louisa Preston has obviously worked in news for a long time (Channel 5, etc) so she has probably built herself a reputation. But if it was that easy for all freelancers...everybody would be doing it...and everyone isn't.

Freelancers tend to work whenever and wherever they can - after all, you never know when you might hit a 'dry' patch. Travelling between Manchester and London occasionally is hardly a problem - plenty of freelance TV types spend their lives on the road, working on OBs all around the world, never mind just in this country.

In the case of ITV News Channel everyone is, look at Lynda Bryans for example, all the way from Northern Ireland

Yes, but your talking about experienced presenters. I'm talking about freelancers who are fairly new to the media.

Yes, but your talking about experienced presenters. I'm talking about freelancers who are fairly new to journalism...not every one of them will become a presenter.
