Media Guardian seems to be running with this story now, albeit more or less re-quoting Bradby

Lord Coe is understood to have been approached by government officials to be the next chairman of the BBC Trust.

Government officials have been quietly building a list of potential candidates, and taken soundings from senior broadcasting figures, with Coe understood to have been very informally contacted about the role.

Coe's combination of strong Tory credentials and a reputation burnished by the success of the London 2012 Olympic Games have catapulted him into the position of front-runner to succeed Lord Patten.

They may want him but I can't understand why on earth he'd want the role. He's got his eye on key sporting roles and a thankless task at the BBC is somewhat of a distraction.
