Hello!

i'm currently working on a college project analysing a weeks worth of news from bbc look north (leeds) and calendar news. i was wondering if anyone could tell me (impartially!) the main differences between the two in terms of how they deliver hard news and soft items, what is the target audience for each programme and the differences in style and presentation please? i'm in desparate need of some expert help!!!
thanx!! Very Happy

Isn't that the point of the project? You're meant to watch and analyse them yourself not ask a load of people from the net to do your work for you!

The best thing to do is to get yourself Sky. You can watch any BBC 1 region, they are all listed between Chs 941 and 958. Look North Leeds is on 946, or 101 if the set up is registered in Yorkshire.

You can also manually tune the box into all of ITV-1's primary regions, this includes Calander's main output from Leeds.

Instructions are here:-

or a much cheaper way would be to pick up your remote and press button 1 for BBC1 or button 3 for ITV1. Hardly worth getting Sky just for a piece of coursework!

well it seems kate is too lazy to even bother to do that. and yet she expects everyone else to discuss the differences for her. perhaps she ought to put her copy of j17 down and set the video for yorkshire at 6pm, and bbc1 at 6.30.

thank you marky mark for your advice!!
to all the rest of you i have actually watched and analysed the week of news that i had to do, i just thought that it would be benficial to get the expert knowledge of someone who has worked in the industry as ive been finding it hard to get background info i.e target audience etc.
anyone nice who would like to advise me feel free, but to all the rest of you sceptical people try to remember when you had to learn about the industry!! Crying or Very sad

I guess the first question that needs to be asked is whether you are considering the Leeds or Hull Look North, and to a lesser extent which Calendar sub region.

The ratio of news to fluff really depends on the news agenda of the day, if it's a slow news day expect lots of triviality on both programmes. As has been pointed out, the two programmes do have different agendas because they are covering a different area now.

Can I suggest Look North Hull, especially over the coming week? Peter Levy and Paul Hudson reunited after a week's absence.... perhaps you could even compare the two Look Norths for the area?

The project is about the differences between Look North and Calendar, you can't just change the remit willy nilly. And what's more she has asked for an impartial view, therefore you don't qualify.
