Sadly she is only going to be off for six months, and according to the BBC Press release below Essex reporter Amelia Reynolds is covering for her from March 7th. I would have thought they would have used either Carol Bundock or preferably Jenny Kirk, both of them experienced presenters.

I don't understand why some people are so pleased to see Susie leave.
I think that her and Stuart really make Look East an enjoyable programme. It reminds me of the good old days of Central News South with Wesley and Anne in that the presenters have good dialogue, but the programme isn't excessively tabloid. Look East just seems to get down to business and get on with covering the news. It is so refreshing to see a news programe not obsessed with gimmicks and just covering news in a sensible way.
Carry on as you are Look East!

I will be very upset to see Susie leave Look East for 6 months, which I can't really understand either 6 months to have and baby and bond?, especially with the Summer months when Susie gets out and about in the Region. Shame but Good Luck Susie. I hope you DO return. Also don't forget that BBC Look East will be without one of there best reporters for 6 monhts too, Alex Dunlop.
Maybe with Amelia she might come out of her shell (pardon the expression) because at the moment as a reporter she doesn't seem to have much of a character.

Please tell me you don't mean ''why is a mother choosing to spend as much time with her newborn child as she can, what a stupid idea?''.
What do you want her to do, pop the little fella out and be back at work the next day?

Suspect Alex won't be off for the full 6 months as well - surely he'll only get a few weeks paternity (unless he's decided to take some extra time off as well?)
As for Look East - I agree with other posts here. It has a decent news agenda, but also still has a sense of humour, and a real "feeling" for the region. They can be serious and hard-hitting, but aren't afraid to be completely stupid on occasions.
Thinking back, they've been quite consistent with their presenting teams as well. Stewart and Penny were a long-standing team - with Kim Riley also handling main programme presenting very well (though having him on-set was always a loss to the field-reporting team)
Stewart and Susie have been together for a decent length of time now as well - so there is a consistency and familiarity that viewers respond to.
I don't live in the patch any more - but thanks to Sky I tune in now and again - and it feels a hugely confident show.

I agree Look East is one of the better regional news programmes and has a good mix of news, features and investigative journalism. One of Look East’s strengths is the on air rapport of Stuart and Susie, though for me personally I’ve never taken to her – although she comes across as a competent and professional presenter it’s her voice that grates me!
I was suppressed at the choice of Amelia, as from what I’ve seen of her she doesn’t seem to have the typical characteristics of a presenter. I just think that having former Channel Television’s Jenny Kirk on the books but not utilizing her in Susie’s absence seems a missed opportunity.
Look East is definately one of the best BBC regionals, I think the chemistry between the 'older Stuart and 'younger' Susie works brilliantly, I hope her maternity leave goes well, and look forward to her returning...she made me laugh during her pregnancy, a report by Gareth George (I think) was announced by her as "this report from Gareth Gates" a few weeks ago...Glad Amelia is the replacement, if only for the Eye candy
