Had this not been in London, would the BBC, Sky and ITV have gone so much with this story? I very, very much doubt it.

True resources are easier to get to LOndon, but the story is massive... it is a major disaster with a massive death toll and long lasting ramifications for all sorts of things, so yes, it would get similar coverage.

Some guy called Tim quit his job, not sure anyone is bothered though.

A bad day to bury good news

I found ITV's choice of location for their OB, necessitating an awful low angle shot, distracting.

The same as Channel 4 News I believe

Seems an American reporter has reached London as Christian Fraser was reading the headlines at 9pm.

Yes, looks a damn sight better and slicker than the bodged NC ones!

The news channel tried to run the short titles into several shots of the tower block at 5 but they crashed the ending to cover a news conference.

I am compassionate towards the great loss of life and I'm sorry this has happened, but is there nothing else to report on? Rolling Eyes

I think we are expecting further updates from the emergency services. This is the worst tower block fire in the UK.

Exactly, it's been developing in terms of loss of life and other aspects across the day. To say the coverage has been excessive is rather uncalled for. It's one of the worst losses of life in the UK due to a fire in a long time. You could compare it to the Kings Cross fire and in terms of 'scale' the Buncefield Oil Depot explosion and fire. It was certainly a developing story between 11 and 4 when I was covering it on the radio.

We did have an update, not from the emergency services, but from the Prime Minister in the last half hour. So, staying with the coverage on the News Channel (in particular given that this is in the UK) was justified. They should stay with it all night and overnight. People also forget that there may be others, such as those coming home from work, across the UK, tonight who will not necessarily see the Six O'Clock News and might in any event want the News Channel to be there during the evening for them to catch up with what is happening.

Minutes ago, Christian Fraser read out names of six victims, and has just had to clarify that they are people who are missing, not fatalities.

CNN's reporter probably as she is American and has a similar view behind her.

It's CNN's Clarissa Ward, who is based in London. Seems like all the reporters/anchors were crowded in that street, I could hear a lot of noise and other channel people on all news channels.
