I suspect they would have been on more solid ground if their local news provision had been more compelling.
Dropping local non-news content in peak (some of which has been produced by indies who can actually make watchable television) would possibly have been an easier sell if their news content had been of higher quality and got people watching it (and talking about it)
I live in London. I can't remember the last time anyone even mentioned London Live or watching something on it. It's kind of become an irrelevance already. The only time I really think about it is when I see the bizarre Evening Standard TV listings coming home on the tube - where London Live is presented as more important than BBC One...
My main platform is Sky HD - and I seldom surf up to 117...
Which of LL's launch executives are actually still there now? So many seem to have gone
I think it's Tim Kirkman who's still left with the sinking ship since launch, along with a couple of the commissioners including Derren Lawford and Lorna Cole. Vikki Cook is still head of news.
Staff who have left since launch include
Stefano Hatfield
Jonathan Boseley
Andrew Mullins
Marc Edwards
Yet Scodie is still there terrorising the remaining three viewers of Not the One Show.

Good to see Ofcom making a decent decision for once. Time for the Standard to stop whining and get to work building a decent tv channel. I believe it can and should be done.
Rip up whatever piece of toilet paper their current programme strategy is written on and revisit their original proposal. Focus on proper news and current affairs and let the indies produce the entertainment stuff.
Ditch Scodie et al and some of those ridiculous gimmicks like the fashion forecast and find some proper journalists and presenters to give the channel some much needed credibility.
Be the voice of London and stop trying so hard to be uber trendy.

Precisely. Decent content will always trump superficial style. But will cost more...

She should have been on the first rocket to the moon. I cant seen what "news" she is head of. She probably single-highhandedly ruined the credibility of the "news-department" and the channel over-all.
I remember back to when she said they were going to do a "celebratory, knowing" style of news. Really? How's that working out for ya Vikki?

Yep - to do that you need, err..., some actual news to broadcast in the first place. Don't worry about the style before you've actually got any substance... However nice your bare brick walls and designer chairs are, if you can't produce a decent 15 minute news bulletin you're on a hiding to nothing.
