If anybody watches TV in the mornings, it's the retired, so perhaps LL are going for completely the wrong demographic ?

But why not expand the market by pursuing another demographic rather than going after the one that is already being served in the morning?

Because there aren't really many demographics available during the day other than the retired, stay at home parents, students and the unemployed. The young professionals they're aiming the station at are being professional and young at work.

One of this morning's weather forecasts from Vanessa Bafoe. Gavin asks the all important question during the two-way.

Sorry, I've only just watched this now. Was this actually broadcast on television? Literally no redeeming features in that entire video. Truly astonishing stuff.

I take it that there won't be any sort of commitment to news at all at the weekends for London Live ?

<Sarcasm mode on>

Is there a commitment during the week?
<Sarcasm mode off>

I did say sort of commitment.

London's Headlines at 11pm were the smog and a locust found in a waitrose salad.

I meant in the morning, before the younger people head to work.

For comparison's sake again, here's the midday news from Barcelona Televisio, a local station serving -- as the name suggests -- the city Barcelona:

Barcelona Televisio also has a "hyperlocal" news segment, where it focuses on specific parts of the city:

Barcelona also had CITYTV branded station back in the day. They bought the format from Citytv Toronto's previous CHUM International. The channel has since rebranded. Citytv Bogota Columbia still exists.

Bought or copied? I don't think it's really a 'format' in the sense it can be sold, although they could have licensed the brand, they probably wouldn't have needed to though.

CityTV licenses its brand, format, and know-how to foreign broadcasters (much like, say, a game show or a reality show is licensed internationally). Here's a clip of the CityTV station in Bogota, Colombia:

Sounds a bit like Jack FM in radio. There would be nothing to stop these broadcasters copying the format though, and just coming up with a different name.

In reality it would have been just the brand and the knowhow they were paying for.

Citytv was very successfull in selling their channel brands around the world before they were sold and many of the licensing agreements were void due to the sale. Citytv Bogota and MuchMusic LatinAmerica survived. They sold branded programming block for their Citytv formats and their MuchMusic format to the USA and many other countries. The CityNews format was seen and copied successfully in Bogota and emulated the original CityPulse/News format from Toronto. Citytv Bogota is celebrating its 15 year Anniversary. Its owned by the ElTempo newspaper and the studio is connected to the newspaper newsroom. The old CityTv Toronto news theme is still used on air, also the signature CITY black clipboards and the 3 sided CITY black mic flags.The channel and news team was so poplar they created at 24hr news channel - ET Canal ElTiempo

Eh ? They wake up, go in the bathroom, chuck some breakfast down their throats, and leave the house.

What's your morning routine ?
