I think they could have scheduled in an extra late-night programme. Even though they didn't know exactly when the result would come in, they could have set aside an hour that could have been used for either the latest picture, the declaration itself, or post-result discussion depending on how things panned out.
Or even an extended early morning/breakfast news programme the day after.
I noticed recently that they have more or less stopped posting their interviews and packages etc on Youtube which seems like an odd decision. The majority of things they post are promos for shows rather then news pieces.
They have quietly introduced several new programmes in the 7.30pm slot, replacing 30 minutes of news.
Monday: 'What to Watch' (Our guide to the best on the box in the week ahead, including interviews with the stars.)
Thursday:
Thursday: 'London Film Club' (Grab some popcorn for reviews and previews of the latest films to hit the big screen in the capital, served with a pick'n'mix of red carpet interviews with the stars.)
On those days the lunchtime news runs for two hours from 12 noon to make up the news minutes.

Hasn't What to Watch been on there for a while just earlier in the day? I saw some tweets about the other one (awful description btw) yesterday although they were pretty much all from people who work there or are connected with the channel. It will be interesting to see how it does for ratings though especially launching against Euro 2016 and in the summer. Why they haven't done it sooner is beyond me but wouldn't a weekend morning be a better spot for it? I'll still set my Sky box and take a look at it next week though.
What to Watch has been a Monday lunchtime fixture since March 2015, along with London Go on a Friday. What's surprising is they haven't moved London Go to the 7.30 slot, or as you say, repeated it on a Saturday morning which would be s good idea.

A much-publicised event happening at 7pm in Soho tonight following the shootings in Orlando. London Live will be the only local news on air at the time.
An opportunity for them - will they rise to it...?

I'm picturing them crashing in after a commercial break scheduled by Comux with a young reporter talking over the event.
