Breaking Story perfect for London Live. Lets see if they cover it.
Warehouse fire in South London. Pic tweeted by ES. These are the perfect situation to have tower cam in a strategic place to catch these breaking stories and get them on air whilst crews and info is being assembled. Im thinking the Shard. A small fee is paid or there could be a name check each time the cam is shown on air. "You are looking at these live pictures from our camera high atop the Shard"

Not allowed to sponsor news in any way in the UK, so name checks would be out.

The Shard is even further away than this picture, so even if it was an interesting story they'd be struggling to get any content other than some black smoke is rising behind those buildings a few miles away.

This is what we mean about the culture difference - I simply can't imagine a UK channel breaking away from scheduled programming to bring live pictures of smoke of unknown origin in the far distance - I certainly wouldn't be tuning into a local channel on the odd chance that something like this might happen. It seems to me like the sort of story 24 hour channels thrive off, because they have no other content, but London Live (/ UK Local TV) aren't 24h news channels.

Canary Wharf is closer to the fire than The Shard.

You assumed I meant this warranted rolling coverage or breaking into programming. Wrong....

Funny how that simple "electrical vault fire" a few weeks turned into that massive heist story.

Sainsburys Warehouse in Charlton - now under control.

So what did you mean by " These are the perfect situation to have tower cam in a strategic place to catch these breaking stories and get them on air whilst crews and info is being assembled. " if you didn't mean breaking into normal programming? If they're not going to do that, they don't need a tower cam to catch these breaking stories.

Funny how that simple "electrical vault fire" a few weeks turned into that massive heist story.

Not that anyone at the time knew or suspected the heist and it's link to the fire. And even if they had, they'd be wrong. Besides, it's not like getting live footage on the street of that fire would have gotten them any coverage of the heist.
VMPhil and bilky asko gave kudos

New collaboration between the BFI and London Live:
http://www.bfi.org.uk/news-opinion/news-bfi/announcements/bfi-southbank-celebrates-london-film-four-month-season

Quote:
The BFI and London Live TV are partnering for London on Film, selecting gems of London-filmed content with real historical significance from the BFI archive for broadcast as part of London Live’s special new BFI London strand. Ranging from We Are the Lambeth Boys and the original Royal Festival of Britain, through to a young Jude Law appearing in The Crane, the titles will be aired in a regular early evening weekend slot throughout the summer, starting in July.

This was in the original London Live application, though airing in a weekday evening slot. London re-lived was the title of the strand.

So back on topic - did London Live (or any of the local tv channels) run the story?

Only very briefly. Jon Naylor was sent to a wine show in Kensington.

Luke Blackall was dressed in a suit today, which may be the start of a change in policy from the smart but casual look introduced by Vikki Cook. Alex Beard was dressed casually during breakfast/lunch.

Just still shots and descriptions on both BBC and ITV London websites. 70 firefighters involved and under control by 6.30.

Looks like London Live have abandoned the 'late' news headlines at 9. Another licence commitment they're choosing to ignore.

They simply don't have the manpower to make what they promised work in reality. I think it will only get worse as more leave and it limps on. They can roll it glitter as much as they want but... it is what it is. Expect no Bank Holiday news again this weekend then probably.

No news again next Monday. News bulletins are replaced by either the Drag Queens of London, Movie Talk and Place Invaders.
