I thought ITV News really worked well yesterday, from the rolling news, to the special hour long ITV Evening News and then the special analysis programme at 9pm which was the only one to go with the special red design. With the News Channel going live after Midnight, this shows that when there is reason to go live they will do it.
They should be commended for dropping all ad breaks for hours as well
So did the itv news channel broadcast live throughout the night? If so it was a very long shift for Rachel McT. Also was coverage double headed all evening? I know Jon Nicolson & Joyce Ohajh were on at 7.
This morning the news channel had a combination of Andrew Harvey, Steve Scott & Leyla Deybelge, it may have started at 6 today as the Morning News shifts people to the news channel.
I'm watch ABC World News Tonight on News 24 right now - compared to our coverage, this is - without wanting to sound insensitive - hilariously overdramatic.
When we were watching the ITV News last night and they showed a clip from the US Networks, we all aggreed they;d made it look like a trailer for a Hollywood action blockbuster, not a serious incident that's hapenning now.
Mum said when she was in Florida, 2 years ago, when the SARS thing was happenning, she said the coverage on CNN made her feel like she wanted to come home, because they dramticised it so much and made it seem like an incoming disaster.
All in all it makes us glad we've got at least decent converage that isn't made over dramatic.
couldn't agree more... i too saw the 'trail' for one of the US network's coverage of the tradegy, voice over sounded like the stereotype deep gravel voiced movie trailer guy... I was actually expecting him to say 'starring' after describing - in monosylables - what had happened.
I'm finding the deep red that ITV are going for a little unnecessary and overbearing.
Their "Target Britain" colour scheme has always been a deep red, with an image of the British isles with a shaded red target on it. I don't think the tagging on screen is too bad, but I am not keen on the backdrop in the studio.
