This was the first major news incident in which I chose to watch Sky News rather than BBC News. I was finding the BBC's coverage rather stodgy, and in the morning, Sky News kept up the panicked atmosphere that I think we all felt as the news broke - it just seemed more accurate on Sky, although, as we know, in the long run BBC News is always proved to be correct. Beautiful aerial pictures of London on Live at Five on Sky News this evening from the Skycopter - it didn't seem to be providing any journalistic information, but still nice to look at.
I was interested to see how Fox News were coping. They were dipping into coverage from Sky News very nicely, but at one point commented that what Sky News was broadcasting 'was not yet confirmed'. interestingly, the Sky News coverage used on Fox included the Sky News logo, but not the clock. CNNi had a lengthy interview with an ITV correspondant, and kept switching between calling them ITV and ITN people.
The idea of a 'Sky One News Special', as it appeared on the EPG seemed strange, and they did remove the Sky News logo and had the Sky One dog in its place. Sky Sports News urged viewers to tune to Sky News for more news.
It would be interesting to see the 'Wright Stuff' change over to Sky News this morning. At first they were discussing the topic 'Terror in London?', and he was urging viewers to get in contact with the show so he could work out what was going on. I changed channels for a second, went back and Sky News was being broadcast. Five obviously keen to switch to a Five News look at noon I believe, anchored by Kate Sanderson.
Anyone get caps of the Channel 4 News info-strap on the noon news? Looked quite good, but onyl used intermittantly.
Surely the ballet dancers BBC1 ident should be used?
I am very sad to hear of these news, it was only yesterday London were celebrating and now for this to happen is absolutely horrendous, I just hope now the people who did this will be caught and put away for life.
I dont think put away, they live a life inside. They should be hung up and tortured.

1 - is providing a "panicked atmosphere" a responsible thing to do, and 2 - would real news (providing journalistic information) not be more relevant than "beautiful aerial pictures of London"?

Whats the point of the Skycopter? It hardly gets used and must cost them thousands to run it, and it hardly gets the news better...

I totally agree CentralWest, they should be hung up and tortured, these people have no regard for human beings, decent human beings going about their daily routine.

On the first point, no it isn't a responsible thing to do, but that was the general impression of Sky's coverage COMPARED to the BBC's. When confronted with this sort of news, it was my initial reaction to switch to Sky because it seemed more attached to the situation unfolding in London - constant links to different feeds, regular summaries of the breaking news etc, rather than the BBC's two people behind a desk approach. I also agree with the second point, but they did seem to keep on screen for a needless amount of time.
Well I see (Newsnight 8pm special, being repeated now on N24) that the News 24 election vehicle appears to have had a reprieve.
However, am I the only one to think its rather unfortunate they've chosen to broadcast a lengthy discussion about today's events from a double-decker bus without a roof?
Clearly the Home Office must have their finger on the pulse if they're typing transcripts from the 24 hour news channels.... Note also, of all the people who were on today, Matthew Amroliwala is the only one who receives a namecheck...
The ITV News special is being shown in full on CNN International, which is taking it's feed from the News Channel complete with ticker.
Sky One's red button is now linking to News Active.
Now on CNN USA.

Fox would therefore be taking the Sky News International feed, which basically has a covered up ticker and logo and a breakfiller.
Everything has been said here. These murderers have shown no remorse, and, even though I am not a sadistic person, I hope they will die a slow and painful death. I think Ken Livingstone and Tony Blair have said it all perfectly. Blair shows that he can be a good leader when it is needed.
