Today showed the Hutton effect on the BBC. They want to make sure facts are checked, checked and checked again before they announce anything. That's why they are rubbish compared to Sky with rolling news. It's only when they have a chance to collect their thoughts with the one, six and ten o'clock news that they do good reporting.

In an extremely confused circumstance, surely the best thing to do is check, check, and check again before announcing anything.

and a central news special live from central south in abingdon with updates from birmingham. i guess many central south viewers work in london, hence the decision to present from abingdon. nice to see a rare glimpse of wesley and an un-generic itv set.

Unintentional according to this thread

noticed in a (very well presented) central 7:30 program tonight, that they used central souths studio. Why have nottingham moved but not south? Are there plans too? (the studio wasn't generic)

Because the central studio was evacuated.

That same person also suggest thats why the ITV NC was broadcast instead of London Tonight, when in reality it is probably more to do with resources. Not that I wish to dis-credit them, but some proof would be nice.

Meridian Tonight was a pan regional programme, broadcast from Whitely (Where else?!).

It's true what you say but even after they've checked them several times they still delay it and get beaten to it by the other networks. I'm sure the 'ten' and Newsnight will be authoratative but I don't rate News 24 as much as Sky.

Just checking the programme schedules. Does anyone know if the BBC News Special which was listed for 8pm on BBC Four was the Newsnight special presented by Jeremy Paxman, or was it a special edition of The World?

I am very sad to hear of these news, it was only yesterday London were celebrating and now for this to happen is absolutely horrendous, I just hope now the people who did this will be caught and put away for life.
