Absolutely - one of the best BBC regional opening sequences of the pre-corporate era.

Yes that was great , although I really liked the theme it replaced (and prefered it at the time)

Would like a return to London Plus 1988, but only if they brought back the title sequence too:

lol! I hadn't seen that before! Very funny the way the camera cable turns into the Thames ... What's also interesting of course with that clip is the South East Symbol with Malcolm pointing ahead to the programme "After London Plus". These days of course, the regional symbol at 6.30 has been dropped completely.

My personal favourite is the Spotlight '98 and North West Tonight's titles used in from 1987-1991.

North West Tonight 1987-1991

And yes, that is Stuart "the Belgians" Hall... !

Yes all very good, but I think spotlight should come back and more to the point anything by Guy Michelmore.

Best local news themes ever (in my humble opinion):

Calendar (1982, YTV start-up music)
Northern Life (1970s-81)
Northern Life (1982-88 )
Look North Leeds (late 80s)
Granada Tonight (early 90s)

Love that London Plus - haven't seen that before.

My two pennorth - the BBC Wales Today theme 1997-2001 (?) with the red dragon and full orchestra - http://thetvroom.com/video-5/AR-BBC-WALES-01.rm

and the BBC Newyddion sequence from 1997 (not sure about the use of bagpipes on a Taffy TV show though) - http://www.tv-ark.org.uk/s4c/s4c/news/s4cnewyddion1997.rm

I looked on the TV Room for Spotlight, there are two files from 1997 and 1999 both with variants of the same theme, do you mean the latter (orchestral) one from '99 or the other one?

Never mind your regional news, try this:

The best news theme and title sequence ever.

With all due credit to The TV Room, TV Ark, TV Forum, or whoever's internet site I downloaded it from. I'm sure they'd agree this should be shared.

oooooo, I totally agree.

I forgot to mention in my other post on this Thread, was:
Westcountry Live 1993 - 2002 (it was a uplifting theme)
Meridian Tonight 1993 - 2002

Yes, now you mention it, Meridian Tonight's original theme and titles was extremely good. ISTR it began with the Meridian Sun full channel ident which then segue'd neatly into the main programme titles.

Love the horizontal and vertical wipes on and off and the way that the 2 presenters appear for a couple of seconds and then disappear again

Why don't people like the London Tonight 1999-2000 titles? I downloaded them today and they're amazing!

I'm pleased you like it.

Unbeleivably, those titles came from 1985 - just at the point I discovered the fabulousness of TV news themes. I tried to redraw the titles on *paper* as an animation pausing a VHS recorder (unsuccessfully) frame by frame.

What with PC audio and video mixing and graphics apps, you kids don't know you're born! I would have given my right goolie to have had computers when I was a kid.
