Discussing coverage and the lead up to the London Mayoral Elections and Local Elections 2012.

Does anyone know what the likes of the BBC News channel and Sky News have planned yet?

From what I can see on the EPG:

BBC News channel have a special overnight programme 'Vote 2012' (most probably simulcasted on BBC One or BBC Two) from 11.30pm - 4am.

Sky News have 'Decision Time 2012' scheduled between 12am and 4am.

We won't get the London mayoral result till Friday evening as the count doesn't start till the morning

Vote 2012 continues on the NC on Friday afternoon 2-6

Vote 2012 is simulcast on BBC1 11.35pm-4am, and then on BBC2 12-1pm, 2p-3pm and 5-6pm

STV have an election special at 4pm on Friday I think. Nothing extra from ITV

Great shame ITV London are not doing any special programming. Long gone are the days when LNN provided superb coverage for London..

I'm sure LT and BBC London News will be live from City Hall on Friday evening in their main bulletins at least. The frustrating thing is as the new Mayor won't be known to most people until Saturday when it's the short headline bulletins.

The BBC have at least one departure from previous election nights - Jeremy Vine's VR set isn't going to be at ITN this year, it's going to be in one of the last places I'd have ever expected them to use... TC2, according to an insider of this Parish on Twitter.

Coverage of the result has been a let down for the 2 regional news programmes. At every election so far the results have been announced on Friday evening after both go off air.

And ITV regional news just gets 5 minutes at 3pm on Saturday due to the FA Cup Final

In 2008, London Tonight had a five minute update at 8.55 with Alistair, opted out from the rest of the UK's coverage and then of course the late update.

There is no reason really why they couldn't have the half-hour at 8pm on Friday. It wouldn't be that costly a half hour surely as ITN will surely already be at the Livingstone and Johnson camps, as well as at the counts.

I've got a feeling it was slightly edited last election. It certainly used to be bluer.
