Going away from TV for a minute - can someone explain how the regional lists work in Wales?

In North Wales, Labour got the most votes, but no regional seats. Plaid Cymru were next and got 1 seat, with Conservative next getting 2. Lib Dems were a distant fourth, but still got a seat. Actually it's a pattern repeated across many regions.

I'm assuming that Labour AMs voting in "first past the post" are taken into consideration, hence why none got in via the list.

If that's the case, I think many people will have had a wasted vote as I think the majority will have voted in the same way on both papers - which means the second "list" vote is effectively a wasted vote if your chosen AM got elected.

Whilst on the subject of voting - we are supposed to have a secret ballot in the UK for all our elections, no one should be able to know how you voted.

Why then does the election officer write the ticket number of your ballot paper against your name so they can tell exactly how you voted?

On a technical level, how hard would it be to link up all the regions and give them different opt outs so thta sa their results came in, they would switch to that feed ?

Well they did manage to do that at one point during the night, ala Children in Need night.

Stayed with the network but put their own straps on top.

With more and more moving to 9am counts, I wonder are the days of the overnight marathons numbered

But there's still all those rejected votes that have to be manually tallied. And either way it's not enough for a majority.

That's going to end up on Have I Got News For You tonight...

You'd never get that with Peter Snow. Actually maybe you would.

He'd be too busy giggling with glee as he recreated the Channel 4 blocks and made them flash pretty colours while flying around the studio.
