"A quick change".... and he's wearing exactly the same clothes!

Maybe he changed his socks.

That was a rather nice title sequence - nicer, I dare say, than thet General Election one last year (which seemed to have its aerial flythrough sequence recycled for Children in Need's titles)

Question Time is recorded earlier - also there appeared to be a few technical sound glitches tonight in the studio which were cleverly edited out.

Having another look at Sky, their graphics are a bit of a mess. the VOTE06 slug is outside the safe areas. The bottom of the clock doesn't line up with the grey box beside it. The graphics on the right hand side of the screen look like they're in Frutiger, and the bits above the DOG are in a lighter than usual version of Helvetica.

It's a wee bit higgeldy piggedy. I suppose it is the middle of the night, and it's merely the local elections, but it's one of those things where a little bit of attention to detail would make things look that much better.

The BBC are using a variant of the graphics they used for Election 2005, with some nice whizz-bang animations (though fewer arrows). No scoreboard on screen at the moment, but perhaps they're waiting until they have more results in?

Non major party flashes are really hard to read on Sky, the grey text blends really badly onto the body of the strap.

Beeb seems to be flashing up results pretty madly at the moment... had to laugh out loud at Jeremy Vine's baton clanger... nice.

I tell a lie, there is a scoreboard on the BBC's coverage: it slides in where the ticker would be every so often. Plus it all fits in perfectly around the tower on News 24.

Another thing to note is that the overhead shot of the studio has some party colours keyed onto the centre part of the desk - which I think they may have done before for the budget.

They've just had a down the line interview with David Blunkett, whose talkback somehow mysteriously stopped working when Dimbleby began asking slightly tricky questions. An amazing coincidence, if you ask me Smile

As gripping as this all is, my council isn't declaring for another three hours or so, and I've got to get up for work in six, so I think I'll leave the excitement for now. I'm sure we'll get a repeat on BBC Parliament at some point in the near future..

Yep, it was a dead give away there a mo ago when the camera switched from overhead to "cross-table" and the colours on the glass vanished.

A technical question, for any insiders working at BBC LONDON...

The network feed that the Nations (Scotland, Wales & NI) will be taking overnight has Debra Mackensie at News 24, in place of the regional opts.

However, BBC LONDON is opting out on DSAT with it's own coverage.

I know that BBC LONDON can opt themselves on analogue, however I didn't realise that they had the capability to opt themselves on DSAT.

I thought that BBC 1 LONDON on SKY was the main NC1 output (with BBC LONDON opts simply made by NC1 cutting MHS to air). This is not the case tonight.

In other words... If you look at, for example, BBC 1 NI tonight after they join ELECTION NIGHT, you will see News 24 during the regional opt, while BBC 1 LONDON will be at MHS.

"Can you hear me?" said DD, the cunning fox, "No, I can't hear you at all!" said liar Blunkett.

I actually like Sky's graphics. There are a few alignment problems but I don't think they detract and you wouldn't notice unless you really looked hard!

I like how the ticker changes to the flipper! lol

It certainly looks more grandeous than the beebs affort (granted Sky now have a huge space station to broadcast from!)

BBC off air!

There was a 'thud', the screen went black, and then the standard apology caption appeared for a minute or two in complete silence. Now they're showing BBC News 24....just now they showed a trail for something, but with the News 24 soundtrack.

omgwtfbbq!!11 etc.

Ooops. We've lost David Dimbleby. Screens abruptly cut to black at 2.58, seconds later BBC ONE has a apology caption, News 24 showed the BBCi Freeivew Screen thing and then into a weather forecast. At 3.00 both channels joined Alistair Yates from BBC World studio.

3.01 and BBC ONE are airing a silent PS show trailer with the sound of a Matthew Price report!
