I hope conspiracy theorists will show suitable respect.
I remember Liz as a solid anchor on Breakfast News, it's very sad news.

It is. She was a South Today reporter in the early 90s too, Sally Taylor paid tribute in last night's programme.
I remember Liz having to voice an impromptu local junction late on the evening of the 1994 World Cup Final, after some clown had switched off the main and reserve power feeds to Hannington, taking all 4 channels and radio off the air for the match

Oooh, yes. I remember that. Most unusually over a static (non-rotating) BBC1 South globe, which was followed immediately by the network clock into the news.

I don't remember the static globe ( swirly cloud version) I was probably too surprised at the local junction, I was expecting a quick apology by network ( it was a national story by the morning) . This was long before the regional Sunday night bulletin, so I've always wondered who else had to be dragged in to do the junction that night ?

It's possible that she was the duty reporter for BBC South that evening and had the wherewithal to operate the pres desk. I think in those days the regional CTAs were staffed during transmission hours for any handling of OBs, regional transmissions or contributions etc and most newsrooms had a presence for national news gathering whether or not regional bulletins were scheduled. The pres desk could be operated by a single person, plus someone in the CTA to put it into circuit, albeit with very limited facilities available. A slide and voiceover was perfectly possible, though an animating BBC One symbol should also have been achievable. Remember in the early 90s, late bulletins were a couple of minutes long, with slides and seldom any VT.

I remember Liz presenting Breakfast News in the Paul Burden/John Nicolson/Noel Thompson era.
Incidentally, who is the Newsnight presenter in the intro above?
I'll just drop this in here . . .
What an amazingly talented journalist.
