When Kirsty Young left back in 2000 it was a loss to Five News and the viewers but this time it isn't really much of an issue to me . This year her performance was lacklustre and the other news readers have been generally better than her.

Fives recruitment for their main anchors has usually been spot on and I expect whoever replaces Kirsty will do a good if not better job.

According to The Sun , Moira Stewart could be lined up to replace her.

Therefore it's not true. How can anyone believe anything from the Sun ?

KIRSTY YOUNG : The Cowcaddens starlet from East Kilbride who started out as an au pair, then worked for a production company. She finally made her media debut on Radio Scotland, then she transferred to Scottish Television (as it was then) and made her debut in 1991 at the age of I think she was 24 (can someone correct me if I'm wrong?). She presented numerous shows including Scotlnd Today, the Late Late Show (with Jim White - Sky Sports one) and her self named chat show.

This is really sad news and Kirsty has been a seriously outstanding credit to our nation. IMHO her best time at 5 News was during the ITN era between 1997 and 1999, where she was impressive to watch and a pleasure to listen to anyday. The fact of desk perching didn't take off in Scotland until 6th January 2003, when Scotland Today relaunched and were first on the local front to participate in this new idea, plus simutaenously on the same day Jane Lewis gave it a whirl with her Sports desk. Razz It was unbelieveably fantastic!

I for one will miss her and god knows what the thoughts are of her former colleagues those still hanging on in there at Pacific Quay at STV and BBC Scotland. I also heard that Shereen may have a hissy fit should Kirsty quit 5 News, in saying that there was no real truth in the story.

ALL THE BEST FOR FUTURE KIRSTY! Wink

That one has gone over my head Laura. Why should Shereen care?
I am sure that Kirsty will do well on Radio 4 and perhaps we'll see more of her on 'Have I Got News For You' as well?

I heard an audio clip from the MHP on Princess Diana's death, Ms. Young was the presenter of five News during that coverage.

I sure hope she does appear more times on HIGNFY Chris. She is fantastic on the show, and I think she's the top guest anchor if not one of the best. I would love to see her on HIGNFY again. Laughing
