It appears that John Nicolson reverted back to the CSO studio between 17:30 - 18:00 so Mark and Andrea could prepare the ITV Evening News! Not sure why it takes an hour mind!

Between 3 and 3.15pm. At the end the generic ITV1 ident was used and the announcer introduced CITV which started as usual with the generic ident with turns into a CITV logo.
For what it's worth, viewers in London got two simultaneous announcements over the ident before the News Special - one for London Today, one for the special national bulletin

When did ITV1 show their news report/coverage?

An eye for an eye, then?
Together with America, we killed 13,000+ innocent Iraqi civilians, many of whom were babies and children. While nothing can justify the appalling murder of Mr Bigley, I would argue that his killers are hardly in the same league as Bush and Blair when it comes to carrying out atrocities.

Sad news indeed, these sick ******* who did this should also be beheaded!

I agree with the earlier comment from harshy. The sick f*ckers responsible for this horrific act of butchery should be
hunted down like the savage animals they are, and when they're caught, they too, should be placed in tiny metal
cages for several weeks, witrh minimal rations, then they should have their heads hacked off with large knives.
Let's see how those vicious ******* like a taste of their own medicine.

I think the Sun's response was absolutely pathetic. Whilst I understand the nature of the whole story, okey, he was an innocent man and all, but erm... remember, there's been many others who have been killed, and alot more innocent.
The image of Ken Bigley in an orange jumpsuit in a cage.... wonder where they got the jumpsuit idea from...
I think the governments response is quite amusing, first the family said Tony Blair had blood on his hands and were doing nothing, then a few hours later, out comes the release saying the government did all they could do.
Was there really anything going on to help secure his release with this mystery person appearing a few days ago, or is it as others seem to be talking about, a little cover up to make Tony Blair look good after saying he was more or less doing sod all.

I have to agree on this occasion. Whether or not the war should have happened, the fact is that it did and we are in there now. But now that we are, we cannot make deals with terrorists. To do so would effectively hold our country to ransom and would pave the way for even more hostages to be taken.
Personally I don't believe they would have released him even if we did bow to the terrorists' demands - they would just demand more, and more, and then kill him anyway, but even if they would have done, the sad fact is that we just couldn't do it, even though that may have condemned him to death.
And throughout all of this, one must remember than Ken Bigley wasn't a member of the forces doing what his duty demanded, he was a British civilian who went to work in Iraq of his own free will because of the extremely high pay which goes with that work (I heard on the radio last night that whatever you get in a week in this country you can expect to get in a day in Iraq). He knew that it was a helishly dangerous country where his safety couldn't be guaranteed. And although I'm sure he didn't like to think about it, the bottom line is that he knew any western citizen going there may not get out alive. The foreign office strongly advises that no British citizen goes to Iraq. Indeed, if it wouldn't be a major breach of civil liberties they would doubtless ban us from going there. But he went anyway. Tragically, this case has shown that ignoring all of this under the misguided belief that 'i'll be allright - it won't happen to me' doesn't always hold out. Hopefully now people won't get so blinded by the thought of the money they can earn there and just won't go.

To be honest, and I know Ken Bigley died in an atrocious way -- not to mention his family's ordeal -- I feel that too much focus has been placed on one person.
There are MILLIONS of people dying in even worse ways -- starvation, for instance -- and I feel that the situation has gotten out of proportion: for a whole country, practically, to go into mourning over one person, is, I think, unrealistic.
That said, I do believe that what this group has done is truly sickening, and I truly feel for his family.

We had a discussion in work over it, and infact when Billy Connolly said in his performance "would they get it over and done with" was he also seeing the same point many seem to be saying about how the whole thing is being reported far too much as said above?
By going on and on about it, the captors are getting just what they want.
Make the situation about him being hostage last for several weeks and once that's exhausted, carry out the execution and then it picks back up again. You can guarantee this will be still talked about a week today. We've got the funeral to come, no doubt live on all channels and special opt-outs during the day
