Can I just say that its been a big mistake switching newscasters on BBC and ITV News' - Kay and Mark on Sky News have been on this story since 1300 without any breaks off for commercials, sports or weather and have done an excellent job - the right tone, and very good to watch. Meanwhile News 24 have had 4 presenters and ITV News a shocking 6 presenters.
Between 3 and 3.15pm. At the end the generic ITV1 ident was used and the announcer introduced CITV which started as usual with the generic ident with turns into a CITV logo.
The reasoning behind the UK channels not airing the tape or any part of it would be that it's likely to cause distress to the family.
Until they are informed that it is confirmed to them, only then will you see the first part of the video or as per the previous ones you see up until they actually perform any beheading. After all if the foreign office is due to call you back with information about the possibly murder of a family member and you see it on television in such a way that it's likely to be, you're not going to be happy.
Once the family make a statement or it's clear they know, then you'll probably find it appearing on TV in some form or other - highly edited.

Nicholas Owen has been on between 12:30 - 15:00, being joined with Leyla Deybelge between 13:00 - 15:00. James Mates and Andrea Catherwood presented from 15:00-16:00 then after 16:00 John Nicolson presented with Leyla Deybelge again.
I dont see that as being excessive at all. Personally I would've preferred Nic to stay as I sometimes find John's voice quite irritating at times!
But whilst you are mentioning news channel rota changes I though Sky's change-over at 13:00 was poorly executed. The people presenting went out of vision at 12:58(ish) and a slate of Ken Bigley was shown with just the presenters talking - they then handed over to Mark and Kay (still out of vision) then we eventually saw the presenters back in the studio just after 13:00(i only watched this as I though it was strange that a good news channel was broadcasting a static image with not much else happening!)
Which then begs the question - should have Sky¦News stuck with their presenters that broke the news or changed as they did whilst it was all still breaking? To the normal viewer what SKY¦News and ITVNC both did will be irrelevant.
PS did anyone present with Bill Neely between 15:00 and 16:00?
Sky News have always crossed over that way at TOTH when a big story breaks. But in this instance, there wasn't much they could show while they shuffled around.
Al Jazeera is in-the-clear nowadays by the way, on Sky channel 819. Heard their news at 4pm, with the words 'Sky News' and 'Kenneth Bigley' being the only words I recognised. Not sure I feel comfortable even looking at that channel. Not sure what I might see.

I know Al-Jazeera usually shows these tapes, but in this case, Abu Dhabi TV is the channel that is said to have the video of Ken Bigley's death - that's also available in the clear on Sky channel 824.
