Well with the vaccines coming and already used, I don't think anyone will be interviewing politicians about lockdown for much longer so it is not something Kay, if she stays, will have to deal with a lot.

Irrespective of that, it’s all about credibility. And that will stay with her for a very long time.

I think that whilst the actual rule-breaking aspect would frustrate bosses, if she were a correspondent (or someone not involved in interviewing/holding to account the Govt and politicians) then it could probably be brushed under the carpet and forgotten about come January. The main problem Sky has is that her job is to criticize the Government and politicians on their decisions relating to lockdown - having broken the rules makes her less credible, and begs the question: "why should the Government counteract her critiquing when she's broken the rules herself?". Having criticized those who broke lockdown restrictions (e.g. Cummings) this isn't a good look at all. She's front-and-center in Sky's news operations.

But while I do agree with what your saying. Something wider is being lost here. A journalist is there to ask the questions on behalf of viewers. It’s not about a presenter or journalist personally getting an answer to a burning question they have. It’s about the questions the wider audience have. Lines have been a bit blurred recently with Kay Burley, Piers Morgan ‘grillings’ becoming tabloid headlines. But this hasn’t ever been about getting an answer for Kay or Piers, or them pushing any agenda, it’s the viewing public of Sky News or ITV getting the answers or lack of answers depending on your point of view. Can guarantee most of the journalists who ‘went after’ Dominic Cummings following his trip to County Durham did so not for a personal agenda but because it was the issue of the day that viewers were angered by.

So no government minister will turn around and say “well Kay you didn’t follow the rules” because that’s irrelevant to the point. The issues moved onto whatever the next discussion is. If anyone did say that to Kay, it would be a weak defence, because as the old saying goes, two wrongs don’t make a right. It’s almost like saying an overweight newsreader couldn’t question a minister on obesity policy.

Don’t get me wrong, I think viewers - me included - will laugh next time she has to talk about lockdown restrictions on air, let alone interview someone about it. But I just don’t think it’ll be a huge impact on her ability to challenge others. Viewers may be less forgiving to her, but others will probably have done worse breaches in lockdown!

Without wanting to get involved in the specifics of this case, one for her HR department and the bosses, is her job to criticize? Surely her job is to question and try to find out the interviewees opinions, reasons for doing what they do, and answers to the opponents views. It isn't to start off with a negative view of what someone is saying.

The dictionary defines criticize as "Indicate the faults of (someone or something) in a disapproving way."

That to me isn't what she should be doing, and what she does on screen is independent of her views and actions. As such, there is less of a knock-on effect of what she has done, but as I say, one for others to determine.

By criticize I really meant objective questioning (e.g. her picking out flaws in Govt's argument)

Talking of Ed Conway, since the second wave death peak on November 18th, I believe even he has stopped doing his charts. I'm not aware of Sky News even acknowledging the downward trend since then. It's just the daily figures and new total. And when they go to that strange girl with the painted eyebrows to analyse the figures, she has no insight at all.

If the newspaper reports about Burley and co are true, and I see no evidence they're not, surely her lying in her Tweet is enough to send her packing. She then deleted the Africa one, which put her lack of contrition about the whole affair into the public domain.

I don't think anti CV19 measures will be going away anytime soon. I doubt we're even halfway through the crisis at present

That’s a massive oversimplification of Sky’s reporting during the pandemic.

On this, I'm unsure as to why Burley deleted the Africa tweet, however I do believe that her leave next week was planned before this incident.

She deleted it because it was crass. Nothing to do with the holiday. It just showed her as a not very nice person.

From what I’ve gathered, she isn’t a very nice person anyway..?
