I think it'll be interesting to see how this pans out over the next few days. Certainly Burley's holiday helps the situation a little, however there are some big headaches.
The one that can't easily be got around is the fact she's compromised her ability to hold to account politicians who may have done the same. I know this might seem small, but it even stretches to conducting interviews about anything 'COVID restrictions' related. You might have noticed the the pandemic isn't a small back-half hour story!
Any guest could turn around on air and bring up this transgression, making her weak on air. That makes any return on air difficult to justify right now. The lack of transparency on Twitter makes it even worse too- how many politicians does she call out for being 'economical with the truth'!?
As for the transgression itself, well what I think some are grasping for is the idea that such a career could be ended so suddenly over something so trivial. Something that will look ludicrous in five years time (if we are pandemic free then). Often with these things, it's about timing, and this sort of 'exceptionalism' is exactly what people will pounce on. The nation did it with Dominic Cummings, and the feeling will be the same. Some of her viewers will have had their significant birthday's cancelled, and they probably didn't involve a private member's club (not suggesting that's a valid element, but to some it will be).
Equating and comparing this to anything else is immensely dangerous of course, but Andy Gray and Richard Keys were once seen as central to the success of football on Sky Sports, and Sky Sports football being central to the success of the whole company. Although it's different, it's worth noting that Sky won't shy from removing people who aren't helping the cause. Keys and Gray had become un-producible and were a nuisance to their colleagues of course...and this is where I think the situation is very different for Burley, but they were at the top of their game, and it didn't stop Sky from sacking them.
I doubt Kay Burley can argue that she, or News, are pivotal to the offering from Sky and growing their subscriber base.
Perhaps it's GB News and TalkRadio for Kay in the future.

Assuming she gets through they next few days, in 6 months this will have all been forgotten about and Kay and others will be long back in their positions. This whole episode strikes me as a flash in the pan.
She is finished now. Other news broadcasters and media are putting the nail in!
No coming back from this, she will be unable to conduct interviews or bring people to account.
Bring back SUNRISE!!

The key difference between these situations is viewers can’t go anywhere for their Premier League football, Sky were never realistically going to lose subscribers by having alternative hosts on Super Sunday. They might lose viewers who can go elsewhere by having an alternative host on Breakfast though.

I don’t think the number of viewers is the primary issue, given how infinitesimal the audience is at that time. But I think it’s fair to say Kay is the best known face on Sky News by miles (I reckon only Eamonn would have been the other). In one fell swoop they would lose their standout figure.

It seems that most of the people who want Kay Burley and Beth Rigby sacked are mainly people who do not agree with their reporting, infact there seems to be a big twitter campaign to get them sacked from people who do not trust the "MSM". Ironically they are mostly people who do not believe in the lockdowns/restrictions or think they are necessary anyway.

Dermot Murnaghan is pretty well known having worked for most of the main channels and presenting Eggheads!!

Which ironically airs before Rita Ora on the Masked Singer. Anyone else in the schedule we need to keep an eye on?
Kay is on the Boxing Day edition of The Chase so that's likely to be her next TV appearance.
